Polycarp Igathe has officially tendered his resignation as Nairobi County Deputy Governor, barely months after being elected into the position during August 8th, 2017 elections.
Igathe quit his position as Vivo Energy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) months to August vote to contested for Nairobi gubernatorial seat alongside Mike Sonko.
Igathe sent his resignation letter to Nairobi Governor Sonko on Friday and copied it to Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
In a post on his social media page, Igathe cited failure to earn the trust of Governor Sonko as the reason for his exit:
"Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county," he said.
"Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians & my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far," he added.

Igathe could be replaced by a WILLING Jubilee Puppet and Manipulatee; the 2 attributes Igathe lacked.
I never saw it coming. Arranged marriage has fallen apart.
Maybe Igathe refused to be a drug courier because Sonko was paying peanuts for the dangerous job.But he could have become an agent/supplier and be paid on commission basis instead
Igathe is a genuine man who has no intention of being corrupted. And you thought the garbage was at its peak, not at all. Where is the corrupt Kidero when you need him cos Sonko is both corrupt and illiterate.
Mugi you wanted Sonko to be Governor of Nairobi so bad. What's not happening?
Huge crazy scandle on igathe about to be exposed .. his wife moved out 2 weeks ago .. igathe might even move out of kenya when he gets exposed
Please by a means explain yourself.
I wonder why Igathe,a genuine degree holder accepted to deputize a devil, drug dealer with a fake one.The same goes to Kalonzo,Nyoro etc.All i know is that you have to be a thief/criminal/corrupt to work with Sonko and other thugs. He may also have expected a huge loot.
@Rumbwa. Get popcorn and sit on a recliner. All the dirty lines will get out in the next few days. The show is still on
Where there is smoke there is fire.It was just a few weeks ago where Sonko was abusing everybody posting photos of him and his buddy Igathe to dispel any fallout..This Sonko is either a total disaster or very sly.If Igathe was suppose to "run things" to appease the Nairobi business elite he either took it upon himself to make Igathe resign or things are so bad in Nairobi that Igathe realised it is a waste of time and there was no money to be made.
All in all Nairobi will go down as the laughing stock of all counties .Sasa Nairobi business community mtadoo nini, will you let Sonko finally run things or look for another puppet to ensure your cartels stay put.Yenyewe Nairobi mtajua hamjui?
Igate was the imposed Nairibi deputy Governor, he and jubilee failed to outwit Sonko and there you dont have it!
Igathe is truly a circumcised fellow n a great maumau. Not corrupt at all n this is what good leaders do!Resign n keep yr good name.Baba should go visit igathe for advice of putting Kenyans first n maturity!Pple don’t have to die in politics coz there is s better life out there than politics.Igathe wish u all the best!
Igathe (Aigaethe) already visited Baba for Advice. That's why he quit.
People are saying Sonko is paranoia he sleeps in Mombasa and fly to Nairobi every morning. He is saying people want to kill him
What happened within hours of a TV interview in which Igathe seemingly was articulating their performance? Neither the fanatics nor faint-hearted have a place in dynamic politics of a metropolis that is Nairobi. A name or ability is nothing without opportunity. In today's politics, a leaders ability to be flexible and negotiate through ambiguity is what is paramount. This is a classical difference between a leader and a manager. As once put "resignation is not a virtue"-good riddance!
You bring up a good question, what happened after the interview explaining the agenda and resignation tweet? Obviously resignation was never in the works. Was this impulsive? Yes. Another difference between leader and manager.
@Oneday, I couldn't agree more... unless, of course, there is a story we don't know...
"....a leader's ability to be flexible and negotiate through ambiguity is what is paramount..."
The Akombe's of this world are not what Kenya needs now, we need people who are more experienced and can take the process of negotiation without ego, fear and/or favour...for the sake of the country....taking into account that the stakeholders they serve vary in their needs and wants. Some people are just Managers who can only operate after all is set and dry.
oh oh Sonko and Nairobi county in hot soup . what next what is the next step who will replace him.
