Kenyan Men in the US Unite to Form Empowerment Group

A section of Kenyan men in the United States have launched an empowerment network that will focus on empowering members living and working abroad.

The network, Dubbed Kenya Men Empowered Network (KEMEN), was formally launched on Saturday in Taunton, Massachusetts in a function attended by more than 150 Kenyan men from across the US.

The group participated in various activities including a golf tournament,  empowerment workshops and nyama choma eating.

Speaking during the launch, founder member Antony Kamnao said the network aims at providing a forum where Kenyan men in the diaspora can address issues that affect them.

“Through the KEMEN platform, the association will engage, inform and educate the community of Kenyan men on how to address the challenges of their daily lives,” said Kamnao.

“The ability to generate, access, and use information has become a key factor in personal, social, and economic growth. That’s why through free flow and sharing of information, this forum will expand its global outreach to the Diaspora society in reshaping our personal, education, and social activities and values.”

Dr. David Angwenyi, founder of Global Connections Kenya (GCK), said KEMEN forms an avenue for Kenyan men in diaspora to empower themselves.

“The open discussion and the sheer talent that was on display at the launch should send a strong message to anyone who is quick to dismiss this organization.  In one sentence, KEMEN has opened a new frontier for Kenyan men in the Diaspora to move the great ideas and unity of purpose into action, and the power that would come out of this organized group of men is simply unstoppable.”

2017 presidential aspirant Japheth Kavinga Kaluyu, who graced the event, expressed optimism that KEMEN will achieve its objectives.

“For me, KEMEN is a practical approach and a refuge for men issues on both Diaspora and domestic fronts,” he said.

“As I leave here today, I have learned that many times Kenyan men don’t ask for help. It is an ego thing. Don’t let ego kill you,” a participant in the launch said. “You cannot squander this opportunity now that we have a group dedicated to men.”

These LUHYA men (Banyore, Baidakho, Maragoli in Houston, Spring, The Woodlands, and El Campo in Texas) should NOT be included in this Men's EMPOWERMENT. For 2+ of these LUHYA Kenyan Men in Spring and The Woodlands, Texas are SHOGAS who have been too Busy Pretending to be "Straight" yet DESTROYING their Fellow Kenyan Man's life (and Marriage) in Missouri City, Texas. So Pliz EMPOWER Gilbert to Sue their Sissy Asses.

@ Guest1. Are you out of your mind or you have been sodomized personally by these people? If not where do you get your information? Why are you excessively and disagreeably pessimistic all the time? Why is it that you have so much manifested hatred, negativity and nothing positive ever come out of you? Mental health is a good thing; help yourself.

Two scenarios:

Lesson to Guest 1:
Hapana cheza na mluhya, utapandwo kama baiskeli ya kuiba.

To empower men, the mission should include salvaging our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora who are impacted by alcoholism and/or drug abuse. Success of the organization will depend on how well you carter for the Kenyan community as a whole and not men and men only. So, expand the tentacles and embrace others.

Quite inspiring, at the end of the day we are all human with same fundamental values and goals. We need to support each other, encourage one another rather than being so negative minded all the time. If you have nothing good to say, then, be quiet.

First, congratulations to the founders of KEMEN for opening up this much needed and over due organ/Avenue for Kenyan men in the Diaspora. Having lived in the US for some time I can authoritatively say that alot of these Kenyan men in the Diaspora suffer in silence due to cultural intricacies outside of Africa which leads to Family break down and worse, so it's just right to find ways to help ourselves and KEMEN is just a GOOD start.

Proud of you guys! Big up my Kenyan brothers. You were beginning to scare me...eeeish. As a woman who has worked with men of all races, I can verily state that you have finally found the strength to start sorting your affairs especially in Legging each other up professionally, culturally and economically. In a country where both race and nationality play against you, you have found a strength in coming together.

Please, do not spend days ruminating on idiotic politicking in Kenya: First focus on your immediate needs here.Once you can support yourselves, you will be able to transfer what you know.

Looking forward to this greatness.

Oh, form chapters out here so brothers can have fraternities where they can share, play golf and avoid senseless drinking.

Hope they will invest and mentor younger men. It is not just drinking buddies and friends with benefits friendships.

I used to be the first one to sign up for "tu groups" in the diaspora. Nikakoma. There are so many groups za wakenya diaspora but they seem to lose their purpose and overtime their effectiveness as people slowly but surely- ki Kenya begin to gravitate together based on their tribes, religious beliefs, financial status, citizenship status na kadhalika.

Then you find that folks become divided further, these divisions become deep seated and Ooops intractable conflicts emerge.

All I'm saying in a nutshell is wanaume ndio nguvu ya jamii. If they can hold this group together and weather the storms that come with it and let go of bullshit ndogo ndogo like kabila, class na status then it will be commendable and future diasporans will remember and appreciate.

Also remember to tackle All monetary issues with care coz hapo ndio uadui huanzia.

And then last but not least replicate the same hata nyumbani, charity begins at home. I see so many people respected hapa diaspora doing some very outstanding, commendable community service lakini nyumbani hata hakuna mtu anawajua au kufaidi na yale wamejufunza marekani. Mi huona hata political parties hapa, zimejaa wanaume wanakutana maweekend kufanya mambo yao, convincing themselves that they can get votes back home. But nyumbani ni ile ile, there are people ready to spend all that hard earned money you get ukifanya "doubles" without any returns ama hata votes. Then people come back bitter, bankrupt and don't want to associate with Kenyans.

But if we instil in ourselves a sense of community service and selflessness and extended it huko nyumbani then it would really make sense to come up with an effective men or womens' group.

All the best
