Kenyan Catholic priest, Father Paul Ogola has reportedly been suspended by the church leadership for rapping in church.
The 45-year-old priest has been using rap music to urge youth to stop using drugs and to get involved in environmental and social justice issues. He recently hit media headlines over his unique way of preaching the gospel and discouraging social vices such as drug abuse.
“I use the rap music to bring … youths to the church. Thereafter, I bring them to Christ,” Father Paul said in a recent interview with a local media.
“I want to rescue millions of youths who are leaving the Church because we are not taking care of their interests. We want to keep them in church. They can sing, rap and dance for Christ as they learn other life changing strategies."
The Diocese of Homa Bay has now suspend the Priest for 12 months, with effect from June 3rd, 2018. Fr Charles Kochiel, the Judicial Vicar of the inter-diocesan tribunal of the Archdiocese of Kisumu said Ogola was suspended over his conduct.
“We have suspended him for a year to give him time to reconsider his ways…every institution has its own code of conduct.”
Kochiel said Fr Ogola should have consulted with the bishops "to find out if what he was doing was in accordance with the Church doctrine.”
Fr ‘Masaa’ as he is commonly referred to in Rapogi parish would shift to his rapping regalia-black shorts, a white shirt and a headband, at the end of the mass and begin his rap sessions.

Don't see anything wrong with that if he is working on rescuing the youth from addiction and mentoring them. Where is the pope in all this? This is a church which has sodomized children world over,priests in Kenya have hidden wives and children at every corner of the country and running small time businesses for their personal gain. This is a church which actively engaged in slavery, took the back seat during civil rights movement and continues to take a back seat as Africa struggles to find its place in Africa. A black man by the way will never be pope and a woman will never be priest. A stone age church that should be expelled from Africa.

I don't think the Christian religion was meant for Africans. African culture is a vibrant culture and our African Traditional Society incorporated music in all aspects of our worship. They gave us the bible and they took our land. Christianity is unafrican.We don't need laws of the bible to dictate to us how to behave. We have our brains to tell us what's wrong and right!

If I were him, I would just start my own church. What would he miss in the Catholic Church anyway?After all, the protestants separated from the Catholic Church partly over interpretation of their doctrines;not to mention that the Catholic Church was pretty corrupt at the time.Not that they are Holier than thou today, but they are plagued with new problems,in addition to those old ones.

I see nothing wrong with his rap music. In fact he should be encouraged. No wonder mainstream Churches & Catholic are declining while Charismatic churches are growing.

Times have changed. You cannot base your life on a book (bible) written about the Jewish lifestyle over 2,000 years ago. This book is out of date. Why? It still talks about women being inferior to men. Women are asked to remain silent in places of worship and are expected to "obey" their husbands while their husbands are asked to simply "love" their wives.
Women are still being blamed for a mythical story written in the bible about Eve being tricked by the snake to eat the apple and then giving it to her husband Adam to eat it. When I challenged my Jewish friend about this story, he told me that, it did not happen! It is just simple Jewish mythologies about their past. Another myth is of a person identified as Jonah who was swallowed by a shark and delivered to a place known as "Ninevah" to tell the residents of that place about god!
If my ancestors had written their religious book and were strong and powerful enough with weapons of mass destruction, my native language, religion, and culture would have been forced upon the weak and desperate people of the world the same way the koran and the bible were imposed upon us.
It is time that we trash these two colonial books and deal with our current issues about how to end corruption and stop the chances of Mheshimiwa Ruto or Mheshimiwa Gideon Moi from becoming the next leaders of Kenya come 2022. That is more important than wasting our valuable time looking for solutions for our very complex social issues from the Jewish bible and Arabic koranic mentally oppressive books.
Catholic clergy move with time. Even those code of conducts and doctrines can be changed to match with the prevailing needs. Don't you have concern for the youths? So you don't care even if they get lost into drugs and other secular things? I'm totally opposed to the suspension of this Priest. How else can youths be returned back and attracted to the church? Father your job is good and according to Nehemiah 5:19 God will reward you. I'm a Catholic but very disappointed by this action. What has hurt them? Have they felt challenged? Has this priest become a threat to them? What would be better, rapping in church for the sake of youths or being found in women's houses, lodging and clubs enjoying sex like most of the Catholic priests do nowadays. Catholic priests stop being hypocrites or else we start exposing you one by one. We can start a busting mission because many of you have impregnated women and dumbed them, but when a real Apostle comes out not wearing a white robe but a pair of shorts and a T-shirt to bring our youths back to church you send him away. What are you spreading? Hatred or the love of God. It seems you hate youths very much and your joy is when they get lost into drugs. Change with time.

Rapping ain't bad but his clads ain't appealing..I can't imagine a Priest preaching to me in the Holy Mass while covering his head like 2pac shakur besides what example is he showing to the young Priests in Formation..what if they all follow his strategy to win more youth followers.He should just get suspended for ever
