Raila to Use His New AU Position to Push for Construction of 6,000-Kilometre Highway from Kenya to Nigeria

Opposition leader Raila Odinga says he will push for the construction of a Trans-African highway that includes a 6,000-kilometre Mombasa-Lagos highway.

The Trans-African Highway project, which proposes construction of nine highways to cover a combined 60,000 kilometres across the continent, was launched in 1971 but failed to see the light of day.

“One of them will stretch 8,000 kilometers between Cairo (Egypt) and Dakar (Senegal); another for 8,000 kilometers between Cairo and Cape Town; a third for 6,000 kilometers between Lagos and Mombasa; and a fourth for 4,700 kilometers between Dakar and Lagos (Nigeria),” says Odinga.

“That is the Trans-Sahelian Highway, which runs 4,500 kilometers between Dakar in Senegal and N’Djamena in Chad. Although the others are only partially finished, countries are progressively opening them section-by-section. It is just one example of what we plan to complete,”  he added during his address at Duke University in the US on Wednesday.

Raila, who was last week appointed as African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, says he will use the position to push for the implementation of the road network.

“I accepted the appointment as AU’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development Championing to spearhead the modernisation and upgrading of selected Trans African Highway Corridors and their missing links,” Odinga says.

Why Nigeria? Who need to be connected with Nigerians? Nigeria is a shithole country!!!. African countries should build their infrastructures first before trying to integrate into one unity. I am against the idea of Africa integrating because it means more chaos, more killings, uncontrollable spread of diseases such as Ebola and HIV. Africa has roughly five thousand different tribes. If no single African country has been able to unite its tribes what make one think five thousand tribes can be united?. I personally don't want to be united with Nigerians. Down with Africanism!!!

Push push push. Raila is not a mother giving birth. He is just a guy with a high sounding title but little to do. He will be jetting all over the place wasting Kenyan taxes. He is in Canaan while his minions are in Kisumu waiting for the next command and wondering where their next meal will come from.

start small, what about maize and kenyan farmers in general. What about simple things like reviving the sugar industry and textile industry instead of this stupid highway to Nigeria that will be built by chinese, I can swear he has been given money by china to push this highway to nigeria and then the african stupid(except rwanda, ethiopia, botswana and tanzania) will run to Beijing begging for loans to build and steal from

Raila, has no business putting African countries in debt. Kenya is yet to recover from second election that he did not participate in. Raila, helped devolve corruption in Kenya (47 Governors) which is destroying our country today. Raila, should not be allowed to make any financial decisions on behalf of any African nations at this point. African needs to live up to its means. Let him not put posterity into debt any further. It's time to stop these unnecessary infrastructures and build and uplift African human resources first. God give Africa leaders not politicians. God help Kenya and Abrika!!

Who told him that we want to have a direct link with Nigeria? For what - so that we can all start selling drugs. We have other problems without being linked to them!

How are you going to built a highway from Mombasa to Lagos if you could not even uplift Kibera from slums after being an MP for 20yrs and a Prime Minister for 5yrs? Even roads in his home tuff are in pathetic conditions, but Luos have been slaughtered every election because of him! Ati he's going to have 5 offices across Africa. We need new leaders with new ideas not recycled out-of-date minds that have yielded mediocrity since Independence.

The ignorant responses displayed here are a testament to the sorry state of Kenya’s affairs. Most heads are stuck too deep in tribal assholes. Always finding someone to blame instead of the drivers leading us headfirst to a bottomless pit. Spewing hate and nonsense ain’t putting that bread on ya tables. Eti sugar, textile like that has anything to do with ‘infrastructure post’. Mara wasted taxes, enlighten me who funds AU. Where’s your outrage at widespread binge of public money now. Mboro ya mende tupu
