Police in Nairobi Arrest Garbage Collector Caught on Camera Carrying Gun

Police in Nairobi have arrested a man who was caught on camera carrying a firearm while collecting garbage in Pipeline estate.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says the ‘garbage collector’ has been arrested after the photo went viral on social media on Friday.

“A man who was photographed armed & the matter brought to our attention has been arrested & will be charged accordingly."

“We thank #KOT for bringing this matter to our attention & for additional information that we received through DMS. Let’s work together to keep our country safe,” DCI says in a tweet.

The DCI has not, however, revealed the identity of the man or what charges will be preferred against him.

In the photo widely shared on Twitter and Facebook, the middle-aged man wearing a red t-shirt, brown trousers and gumboots is seen picking garbage outside a residential building.

A pistol tucked in his pants can be seen from behind.

As Kenyans, we all need a right to carry a gun. If any foreignor or individual has a right to carry a gun in Kenya, we should all be treated equally under the law. Each and everyone over 18 years of age should have a right to carry a gun. If not, no one should have a right to carry one other than an officer of the state. A right to a gun, mean a right to carry out violence against fellow human being. Everyone has a right to defend themselves against aggression by fellow human being. We need to arm our people against terrorism from within and without. If we are arresting one for having a gun, we should arrest all others with guns. Equal treatment under the law. This is how we got colonized. Colonizers and collaborators had guns, our people did not. Guns is the power that has been used to colonize, suppress, silence, humiliate, maime and kill people all over the world. These are some of the changes needed in our constitution!!

What do you mean? If one has an unauthorized gun, what do you expect? Any individual needing a gun has to apply to get one.... na sio ati kila mtu apewe coz one of them applied and got......that argument baffles...

@just me. We copy the West. All in the West, have a right to carry a gun. They may choose not to, but they all have a right to do so. A gun was used during colonization and may be used again for the same purpose. Time for our people to be prepared for self-defense if attacked or if forced once again to follow another's religion. (Christianity, Islam,Buddha) and the like.
