Kenyans in the Diaspora Have Until June 20th to Register for Huduma Namba

Kenyans in the Diaspora have until June 20, 2019 to register for Huduma Namba, the Interior Ministry has announced.

The registration exercise for Kenyans in the Diaspora started at Kenyan consulates and embassies abroad on May 6th.

“We began another phase of registration this week that addresses Kenyans in the Diaspora. We have distributed a total of 154 KIEMS kits in 54 missions around the world,” said Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’ in a press conference on Monday.

The deadline for those living in Kenya is May 18th, and Matiang’i on Monday said the government will not extend the deadline.

Kenyans in the Diaspora will first need to submit their application online at https://diaspora.hudumanamba.go.ke (by providing their name, email address and documents such as a valid Kenyan passport/ID and birth certificate). They will then receive a confirmation number in their email address containing a Reference Number and a Document Number. They will then need to present themselves to a Kenyan embassy or Consulate for Biometric Data Capture.

So far 31 million Kenyans have been recorded on the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS), added Matiang’i.

Huduma Namba was unveiled by the Jubilee government to act as the source of truth on a person’s identity and create a mater population database in the National Integrated Identity Management Systems (NIIMS). The government says Huduma Namba will ease delivery of service to Kenyans and reduce the huge number of documents needed to access government services such as getting a passport.

Knowing they can steal just about anything. This whole exercise just has me suspicious as hell. They did not make the effort for us to Vote yet they will avail services for us to get a huduma number. Me senses kuna kitu.

My experience dealing with the Kenyan Embassy Canberra was nothing short of frustrating, such a task might leave me on the wrong side of the law. Sita weza

We cannot vote but need to register? So how does that help me in the diaspora. Next u will say i cannot get a passport right? Thats even if its even possible?

Mundumugo (not verified)     Mon, 05/13/2019 @ 09:38pm

Yeah good luck with that. Will I get reimbursment for a flight and hotel to D.C. or L.A.? Whose personal days or vacation days do I get to use? Does anyone in the Kenya govt. have any idea how truly immense countries like the US and Canada really are and the logistics of of arranging travel not to mention the horrible lack of service at the D.C. embassy? All this to get a number of dubious value to most of us. As I said good luck with that.

So they expect 100,000 plus people in the US, to go to 2 consulates in 4 weeks? And said consulates aren't even open 5 days a week? Who's the genius who came up with this?

Matiangi, who I don't believe has ever set foot in the embassy as a member of raia. Unfortunately, neither he nor his boss pay attention to the work habits or hours these embassies keep. These places should be open 8am to 5pm daily, no winter hours and a half day Saturday. Just saying.

It's Kenya. Nepotism and corruption got the website creator the job. The best guy for the job is at home unemployed, broke and pissed off at the system. Using his talents to rip off some major corporation remotely.

So far we have registered 31m faithfully patriotic kenyans n within a week itakuwa 40m.Watu wangu wa diaspora the court said it's not a must u register so why talk trash n it's upto you to chose??Nobody is interested in stealing yr cents.

Has this demand been enacted by Parliament? Now you gonna have the PIN, Huduma number, ID, Passport, Driver's license and what is next.

Most Kenyans in the diaspora left Kenya to rid themselves of the dysfunction and mediocrity of our government. Now they're trying to bring that nonsense abroad. They should concentrate on running Kenya and let us be.

This is a very short timeframe. If I didn't open Mwakilishi, I couldn't have known about it. The people who are enforcing this must remember we only have one embassy in United States. How are we expected to apply within few weeks across 52 States in US?

Jaber (not verified)     Tue, 05/14/2019 @ 02:27pm

So there is Huduma Namba (NIIMS) and Huduma number (prepaid mastercard). Somehow I imagine this was done intentionally to confuse the local mwananchi who does not read the fine details. Both are being enacted by executive order and not Parliament. Wo while neither is mandatory--as a Kenyan in diaspora, you and you children will be denied passport renewals/ID if you do not register. It's a conundrum no matter which way you look at it.

mkenya halisi (not verified)     Wed, 05/15/2019 @ 01:43am

@jaber exactly!Either way hata kama the courts declared its not a must somehow we will suffer if we don't take it so it's upto u to see if u will take it or not?

Sera (not verified)     Wed, 05/15/2019 @ 06:40am

Countries like Switzerland where I am don’t even have an embassy,we already paid flights to go change our passports and they think u just wake up and pay another flight for this?! I wish this leaders would Realite how hard life is out here. It’s unfair!!

mkenya halisi (not verified)     Wed, 05/15/2019 @ 05:38pm

@sera switzerland is one of the corrupt nations on earth.Majoritu of money stollen from leaders politicians r kept there n the swiz gavament have refused to return it making profits with blood money n they know very well pesa yenye imefichwa huko ni ya wizi so stop praising a corrupt nation. The truth has to b told.Again i will repeat its not s must we take the huduma number.

I know neither Kizungu nor Kiswahili are your first languages but how hard do you work on being incoherent in both?

Kenneth Kahoya (not verified)     Thu, 05/16/2019 @ 12:38am

What are you going to do after June deadline? Are you going to commit suicide? Why does it have a deadline in the fast place? Stop fooling the people of Kenya, we know you have a secret agenda and that's why you are rushing the people. If you want to mortgage the country to the Chinese just go ahead but minus it's people. Your aim is to borrow as much money as possible from the Chinese and other lenders and to make sure everybody pays. We are not fools. We are watching very keenly

John (not verified)     Thu, 05/16/2019 @ 11:10pm

So diaspora cannot vote anyway. Regardless, they know us has the equivalent of 50 african countries?? With only 2 consulates. So we can't renew Kenyan passports so what then? Why is the number a credit card through Mastercard? Do they plan on taking more billions from China and then you find out they distributed the debt to everyone by force since all your information including fingerprint is there? Giving them right to confiscate property, cease bank accounts including land? This seems like a ploy to disrupt government and a country as a whole, but who is pulling strings? For a country that just got its first constitution less than a decade ago, it's still rooted in colonialism with the tendency of certain individuals acting as though they alone rule the damn country.

I totally understand the frustration by many here in the diaspora with this whole process. The Kenya government indeed has a way to make life quite difficult for its citizens both in Kenya and abroad. If you NEVER plan to transact anything in Kenya, -passport, land, bank acct, automobile, import/export, NSSF, NHIF etc then I see no need for the huduma number. However, any service that you will want rendered to you in the future will have to be accompanied by an identifying huduma number. Just got off the phone with a friend in line to register because failure to do so will severely limit what you can transact in Kenya. Can you imagine trying to get one from scratch after the deadline? I hear you will have to start from the local chief and work your way up...I once lost my ID and had to go to Kenya and start from scratch...not anything I want to ever repeat. Maybe, register online then take that info to an embassy close to you in the future...then, you will not be starting from square one. My two cents.

huduma namba.... (not verified)     Wed, 06/05/2019 @ 04:49pm

We as a nation cannot design an effective website!!!what a shame!!!!

why can't the kenya govt give me that contract so that i can design a user friendly website instead??
or rather use the database to allocate this huduma namba!

So Mr President are you going to deny your citizen entry just because they do have this huduma namba?

It is as if we do not have enough problems living outside kenya, why make this huduma namba compulsary??

We do not need this bullshit however designed this website needs to go back to school to acquire some advanced knowledge in programming and webdesigning. The registration portal is so frustrating.
