Why Esther Passaris Wants Kenyan Women Allowed to Procure Abortion at Will

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has called for the legalization of abortion in Kenya.

Speaking during the 9th Africa Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, which is ongoing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Passaris said Kenyan women should be allowed to terminate pregnancies at will.

She argued that most Kenyan women, especially those living in the slums, use abortion as a family planning method but the fact that abortion is illegal in the country means they do it unsafely, leading to deaths that can be avoided and inhumane disposal of fetuses.

"They should not give birth to children to suffer. They should not have children they cannot take care of," said Passaris.

She added: "I'm for pro-choice. Let the women procure abortion early in pregnancy if they don't want to have the child."

Why not advocate for other family planning methods, such as IUDs and Condoms? They are cheaper, safer, and much more humane than an abortion.

@ Kale, how do you do that? And are you sure that they dont know what they are doing,or just ignoring it. See, irresponsibility and carelessness of some of the members in the society on the long run becomes a societal concern.
So whatever society deems is abetter solution,Iam for it.Even it it means castrating men of certain age...
As you can see the solutions are not easy.Or else it could have been solved long time ago.
Even in strict arab world, you find some abortions...and illicit sex.
@ Kale, you and your religion, I hope that you make a distinction between aborting, and killing a 30 year old rapist...
By the way, "You shall not Kill what?" Kill all of all sorts is over the world... why?Could it be that its part of our animal make up...?
Remember, morals, mores culture, and social acceptability or there lack of,changes with times. In other words, there is justification for killing-at times.Despite what your God says.

Bible this Bible that, something brought along by colonial masters to colonize us. Now even young victims of rape can not abort safely because of the fake book written by all men in the dark to "manage" the world. @Maxiley the African needs a complete brain transplant.

Texas is one of those "You shall not kill" States. At the same time, Texas has murdered more persons than any other jurisdiction in the world. We need to take a sober look at the abortion issue, and not just "You shall not kill".

Passaris is advocating killing unborn babies through abortion; perhaps something she has already done in the past.

She's advocating for SAFE abortions because it's been done anyway. Religious people who publicly condemn pre marital and extra marital sex are privately having sex and lot's of it despite what their "holy" books say.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Can you murder your neighbor, and justify it by saying that your pastor also does it? Why advocate for abortion, instead of not conceiving in the first place? Why kill, if you don't have to?

she has a point....doesn't mean Kenyan women don't do it because it is illegal. they still do it but in the alleys which is unsafe...deaths that can be avoided happens everyday!let them go to a clinic! women should be able to decide what they wanna do with their bodies period......kudos Passaris

From the way Passaris advocates for killing unborn babies, I think she has done it herself. She is on record saying that she 'counseled' her daughter about sexuality, when the daughter turned sixteen years. My point is about the rush to kill the unborn, when there are alternatives. An Intra Uterine Device(or IUD), placed in a Woman's womb, will make sure that she doesn't conceive. It is much cheaper than an abortion, and you don't have to kill babies.

Pasaris is nut shell . she should advocate way to help these women to earn a decent living . with some income they can go for birth control. She is anyhow a women representative but i think she only represent herself. she want to be in the news by preaching bull---t
