Youth Accuse Kenyan Man of Having Coronavirus, Stone Him to Death

Police in Kwale County have launched a manhunt for a group of youth who killed a middle-aged Kenyan man after accusing him of being infected with the coronavirus.

The victim; George Kotini Hezron was reportedly heading home after a drinking spree in Diani on Tuesday night when he was accosted by a gang that claimed he was suffering from the illness. They attacked him with stones leaving him for dead. 

Confirming the incident, Msambweni Sub-County Police Commander Nehemiah Bitok said the youth had fled by the time police arrived at the scene.

"While heading home, he met a group of youth who attacked him and accusing him of suffering from coronavirus," said Bitok.

The man was rushed to Msambweni County Referral Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
 
Police are tracking the suspects as investigations into the 9 pm incident continue.

On Wednesday, Kenya confirmed three new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of infections to seven.
