Prison Warder Charged with Stealing over 2,000 Pairs of Military Boots Worth Sh6 Million

A warder based at Industrial Area Remand Prison was on Monday arraigned in court for allegedly stealing over 2,000 pairs of military boots worth Sh6.4 million.

Naftali Wahome is accused of breaking into the Central Stores of the Kenya Police Service where he stole 2,222 pairs of military shoes.

Appearing before Kibera chief magistrate Abdulqadir Lorot on Monday, the accused was charged with the offenses of stealing and handling stolen goods.

The court was told that he committed the offenses together with others not before the court on the night of August 8th and 9th in the Industrial Area in Nairobi. 

The 2,222 items include 1,826 pairs of ankle shoes and high leather boots for men as well as 398 pairs of leather ankle boots for women. 

Following his arrest, detectives recovered 550 pairs of assorted police boots and two rolls of uniform cloth from a house in Kamulu, and 251 pairs from a house within Industrial Area Remand Prison.

Wahome denied the charges leveled against him and was released on a Sh1 million bond. The matter will be mentioned on August 28th.
