Kenya’s Agnes Gathaiya Appointed as Google’s East Africa Director

Google has named Kenyan Agnes Gathaiya as the new director for East Africa.

Gathaiya, the former CEO of Integrated Payment Services Limited (IPSL), takes over the position from Charles Njenga Murito, who was appointed as Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Director for Sub-Saharan Africa.

She boasts over 21-year experience in organizational transformation, focused on developing strategy, and providing commercial leadership in sales and business development.

Gathaiya has previously held executive positions in various industries including telecommunications, banking, enterprise services, and consultancy.

Before joining IPSL, she worked as the head of Enterprise Sales at Safaricom and Public Sector general manager at Chase Bank. She also served as a director at software company SAP, where she was the head of strategy, overseeing the company’s increased visibility in Kenya and Rwanda.

In her new role at Google, Gathaiya will be responsible for managing regional operations for East Africa, developing the tech giant’s regional priorities, mission, vision, and values.

Gathaiya holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bryn Mawr College and a Global Executive Masters in Business Administration from USIU and Columbia University.

She is also a board member at One Acre Fund, United Way, African Women in Fintech and Payments, and the Payments Association of Kenya.
