Actress Who Posted Nude Photo of Herself and 7-Year-Old Son Jailed for Three Months

A 31-year-old Ghanaian actress has been sentenced to three months in jail for posting a naked picture of herself and her son on social media.

Rosemond Brown, alias Akuapem Poloo, was convicted by an Accra court this week following her prosecution in a case supported by Child Rights International (CRI). She broke down in tears after a judge read out the sentence.

Rosemond posted the photo on Instagram in July last year to mark her son’s seventh birthday. In the image, she is squatting and holding the minor’s hands, both are semi naked.

“I’m naked in front of you because this is how naked I was giving birth to you, so in case you find me naked lying somewhere don’t pass by me but rather see me as your mom who brought you to life. Happy birthday to you @sonof_poloo,“ she captioned the photo.

The post went viral on social media, attracting huge backlash.

“As a child rights organization, we deem this act as a violation of the Welfare Principle of the Children’s Act and abuse of the child’s rights to privacy and dignity,” said CRI in a statement.

Following public uproar, Rosemond was arrested by officers from the Ghanaian Police Criminal Investigations Department.

The actress pleaded guilty to three charges leveled against her.

Hahaha homo sapiens never seize to amaze me. One act is glorified in one sector of the globe and the same act is vilified in one section of the globe.
Iam curious, does the children's act and abuse of child's rights apply to the dwellers of the Amazon Jungle?I see alot of adults walking practically naked infont of their kids. Shouldn't some one take action? What exemption qualifies them?

@Maxiley, Amazon people do not have cameras to post their nude pictures on social media. To them it is their normal way of life. When you post a nude picture of our child online that is call child porn.

@ Kenya, Iam alittle confused with your reasoning.Tell me what is "humanly"abnormal about what this Ghanian lady did? That is different from the Amazon if they had acamera, and did the same thing?
When you see a picture of a child (naked) and let your mind think of sex, wow, this cannot be good news.

@maxiley - those in the Amazon basin never knew they were naked until mzungu tourists traveled there, took pictures and sent them all over the world stating that the Amazonian are naked! The Amazon Forest is still virgin to the outside world but it is quickly getting polluted!

These hypocritical stances are very troubling. Many Africans still bathe at their local rivers in the countryside, if they have not dried up yet. Newsflash : the women bathe with their infant and toddler kids due to lack of piped water or well water at home. Hope the judge and prosecutors will arrest those mothers too and jail them.

Very well said. Unfortunately most judges, executive and lawmakers in africa serve european interests and laws. They are not our true leaders, but puppets put in place so Africa can be put down and we can be exploited.
It is up to the public though to put them in place so they know they cant get away with such idiocy. Picking on that young mama is very cowardly too. It appeases their white masters though as they score points trying to ape the white model of nudity equals sexuality. Do you know most tribes never wore bras traditionally but mzungu made them feel naked. Their is resistance though.. In SA, it is common for Xhosa and Zulu to go bra-less in traditonal garb and you cant sexualize that. They sent a massive middle finger to the west. After all its proven reducing bra wear gives you less chances of breast cancer. We must educate and stop this self hate in all forms.

wafrika kweli wana shida. Mzungu has messed up the african psyche mpaka we dont seem to know where we came from or where we going. We talk foreign languages, we worship foreign brought gods, we identify with foreign names. Its no wonder naturally mzungu will feel they own us. Why does the article name her as Rosemond Brown, alias Akuapem Poloo? Any African knows it should be the other way. A naked woman in africa is different than in Amazon than in UK. Using (UK)common law to apply to her is a shame to the judges, ghana society and africans in general. As for this CRI NGO, a look at their board members on their site shows wote ni wazungu. So you basically have white people doing the colonizing work worldwide. Why dont they advocate for the children killed when their govts drop all those stray bombs and drones? Shenzi kabisa. We should stand up for our African women and society and condemn the condemnors.
Ubeberu must stop.

@Fundi, it becomes a crime when you post a nude picture of a child online. You do not know who is watching online. That is different from when kids from the same village go to swim in the river.

I don't follow your logic. National Geographic and others like them consistently use naked images and video that are easily accessible on line which I'm sure generate hits and therefore ad revenue. The only line they appear to draw is no white naked people. btw news organizations in the west would routinely post images of dead Africans but never of themselves. I don't see anyone dragging these organizations to court. @Fundi is right. I would add that we need to reexamine what middle eastern religions have done to help subjugate Africans. I am not saying we should stay mired in the past but we have been brainwashed to believe their ways, their names, etc are superior to our own detriment. This lady has only offended those with sensibilities heavily influenced by foreign religions that actually condone slavery.

@ Fundi, my mention of the Amazon people who walk around naked, and unashamed of their nakedness was to point out our commonality with them in that regard, despite being worlds apart.Yes from what I have read,we never sexualized women's nakedness till mzungu na mwarabu came with their religions. Obviously, sex still took place. In the right context dictated by customs, and traditions.
Is human body really an object of shame?I think not.Much like an animals body is not a source of shame. We as human beings have live on earth much longer without cloths than with cloths. What changed? And covering the body to keep warm is not same as covering out of shame. All human parts on the body are important, and have a function,or used to have an evolutionary function at one point.

There are many mortally right and wrong things to do when it comes to a child! It does not matter if you are black or white to know what is right or what is wrong! The Ghanaian woman has some unresolved issues which are making her take nude photos with her minor kid!

Always got to blame some body without the willingness to accept responsibility of your own actions! So do you want to tell us the black folks don’t have a mind of their own to decide the rights things for themselves? You warped mind is yet chained and frustrated @fundi.

Kenya, Are you being serious with your 1st sentence or just trolling? You do realize this involves newborns, babies, toddlers and all imagery whether medical, scientific or purely literal.
From your handle, it seems you are kenyan and I can assure you kenya has no laws that states a picture of a naked child is illegal. This is a moot point as the article was based on Ghana though and the law there is what applies here. I think where you and Fundi failed to know is she was NOT charged with having a picture of a nude child. I think the article title is misleading. She was charged for HER OWN nakedness online. The kid had pants on. Go read it...google is your friend. Your 2nd point is just as clueless if not outright ignorant. Using your logic, everyone would be liable for whatever acts that can be tied to them direct or indirectly stated online. For instance, if someone reads your first line, goes and arrests the first person they meet who has a naked picture of a child on their blog, book or article and says its because you posted that it is illegal. Are you taking that responsibility since you do not know who is watching online? From the mathare mental cases who are in halfay release to the overzealous OCPD, they can say they read it online. Of course not. Thats why you've use a fake handle so you cant be known or hold any responsibility. As far as the difference of a kids in a river, field or ocean this is all subjective. Google napalm girl and see the multiple kids pics that ignore both your first two assertions as automatically applying.
