United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party linked to Deputy President William Ruto, is set to open an office in the US.
The office will be located on 1648 310th st S Federal Way Washington 98003, according to a poster shared on Twitter by Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata
It will officially be launched on June 16th with Senator Kang’ata being the chief guest while Kiarie Prestige will be the host and Gerrey Wainaina the master of ceremony.
“I am greatly honored to be Chief Guest for the official launch of UDA Diaspora Office in Seattle USA Washington state 1648 310th Street Federal Way Washington 98003 6 pm 18th June 2021. All are invited,” Kang'ata tweeted.
The opening of the office comes weeks after Ruto reached out to Kenyans in the diaspora ahead of the 2022 general election.
Ruto held a virtual meeting with Kenyans living and working in the US, Australia, South Africa, and the Middle East, where he laid down his plan for them.
During the meeting held in April, Ruto promised to create a ministry that will exclusively deal with issues affecting the diaspora community.
“It is time we had a fully dedicated ministry for diaspora just like the way we have a ministry for devolution. The ministry will be addressing all the challenges facing Kenyans in every part of the world,” Ruto said.
He added: “We recognize the critical and huge contribution—both economically and intellectually—that Kenyans in the diaspora make in the development of our country.”
He also said his administration would push for the creation of a benevolent fund to support families whose loved ones die overseas.
The deputy president further pledged to ensure that visa and passport regimes are overhauled if he becomes president.
He also promised to have Kenyans abroad enrolled in the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

This a positive development diaspora needs to use to air their views and vision. We need a ministry of diaspora and many other things. It isn't enough to brag about remittance every quarter without structures that could help maximize and optimize resources.
