Kenyan Woman Hit and Killed By a Car in Hyattsville, Maryland

A Kenyan-born woman has died in a road accident in Maryland. Hellen Kemunto Jorgensen was reportedly hit and killed by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of Ager Road and Hamilton street in West Hyattsville, Maryland. The incident happened last Friday at around 11:00 pm.

Hellen hails from Kisii County and has no immediate family members in the US. Her three children Jackie, Dennis and Aksel, who all live in Denmark, are seeking to transport her remains to Kenya for burial and have appealed to well-wishers for financial support.

They are seeking to raise funds to repatriate her body to Kenya for funeral, as she wished to be buried in Kenya.

I am very sorry for the loss for this family, very sad indeed.

Have anyone else noticed that there has been so many deaths that happens among Kenyans in Maryland? I noticed early last year and i have commented about it in Mwakilishi. Even most of the orbituaries we have currently, they are from Maryland. It's a Trend i have noticed.

I have...I guess the number of Kenyans living in Maryland is quite high. But then, I've noticed this sanasana this Covid era. I hope Kenyans in Maryland are not being careless ...congregating without paying attention to the Covid protocols. God have mercy.

Bhangi nyingi sana Maryland! Wanakula kama mboga. Many are so stressed up with impaired judgments. Pia walevi tele sana huko Md and many are involved in shady deals especially those residing in Outskirts of Baltimore. I know this for a fact as I lived there for 10 years before moving to N Carolina.

@Sue..a trend? Mhhh...maybe there a big concentration of Kenyan community over there. I doubt death is something any community would dare trend with! However, if the spirit of death has chosen to trend amongst our sisters and brothers there, then I say: Ashindwe, kwa jina la mwenye nguvu!

Sue you are a genius, I have noticed there has been many death among Americans in Boston and even most obituaries we have currently in Boston Globe are from Boston.

Life in Maryland is tough. Many Kenyans are living by the paycheque. Discrimination and a lack of proper family ties, network, career has caught up with many Kenyans there. A lack of a Career destination and age has also caught up with many Kenyans. Not just Kenyans in Maryland but also in many other diaspora destinations.

R.I.P Hellen. I do not understand how the accidental death of this Kenyan lady has led to all these discussions that has nothing to do with her death. How about just keep her family in your prayers and keep your misguided thoughts and armchair psychology to yourself.

Some genius has noticed that most Kenyan websites only have obituaries of Kenyans...... this must means Kenyans are drunks and careless with covid because life is hard and they have no family ties and have no career goals. That's a fact........ thank you Einstein.

Kenyans around in that state and around it are evil to their fellow Kenyans. You go church UGLYNESS . You go club UGLYNESS. Families UGLYNESS. Majority of worst Kenyans settled there as a very liberal area but also dangerous

Those who move from that state fair better. Others just stay on their own to avoid unnecessary Gossiping and conflicts.

@Fundi, the reason you don’t understand our discussion is because your intellectual level is below an “A” type thinking. Just because we are having this discussion doesn’t mean we don’t care for Helen leaving us. A close mind has no direction.

Realizing there is many deaths could bring a serious discovery to understand why. Once a cause is concluded, then a solution could be found. Always take time to think on a 3D dimension. That’s all.

I see nothing wrong with this discussion. It’s a healthy discussion and open.

May soul rest in peace. I have known Hellen for quite a while through a mutual friend, and I have helped her renew her license for quite a few years. She was a good woman and very caring, she would visit our church in Hyattsville with her friend , Gladys, many time. I will mill her infectious smile. May God comfort her family!

It is a pity that the good ones don't last. I got to know Hellen through a mutual friend, Gladys. I even helped her renew her licenses many times, and did visit our church quite a few times with her friend. Hellen always had a smile on her face and was never harsh toward anyone. I will miss her calm and gentle spirit. May her peaceful soul rest in peace, and may the God of all comfort be near the family in this very difficult time.
