IEBC Investigating MP Moses Kuria’s Vote-Rigging Claims

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has launched an investigation into Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s vote-rigging claims.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati says the commission’s investigation team has opened a probe and will summon Kuria to shed more light on the claims.

“We are aware of what he said but people always have their versions of what they said. So our investigation team is probing before we summon him,” Chebukati said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Kuria said he was involved in rigging the 2017 presidential elections in favor of President Kenyatta. Speaking during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC), Kuria claimed he collaborated with other leaders to steal votes for Kenyatta.

"Kuna wengine wanasema ati kura ya mlima itagawanywa; mheshimiwa Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi…Sisi ndio tulikuwa tukishikilia Uhuru kura, na sisi ndio tulikuwa tunamuibia kura,” Kuria stated.

“Akili yote iliyoweka Uhuru kwenye kiti, yote iko hapa, ile iliokuwa kule Azimio ni mwili tu.”

His claims caused a social media uproar, forcing the Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader to retract his statement, saying he was misquoted.

“Ben Githae is my witness. Tuliimbia Uhuru Ndani Ndani Ndaani mpaka akashinda,” Kuria said through Facebook.

Last month, Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege was summoned by IEBC to explain her remarks suggesting that the outcome of the 2017 presidential election was manipulated.

Speaking during an ‘Azimio La Umoja’ rally in Vihiga County, Sabina was quoted saying that allegations that the 2017 election was rigged in favor of Kenyatta were true, and the same could be done in this year’s election.

"Mnajua kule Central nimeskia wengine wakisema tuliwaibia. Kuna ka ukweli kidogo. Lakini kama tulijua kuiba... si hata hii tutafanya ninii... Kwani wanafikiria wao ndio wajanja? she posed.

It's an open secret, votes have been stolen since democracy was invented. Leave him alone, he's a great entertainer. Life in Kenya without the likes of Kuria would dull and boring.

Really Mwangi? Kuria is a thief. He has admitted that he stole votes. A thief can’t be allowed to entertain Kenyans by telling the world that he engineered stealing votes.

Such lose talk has consequences. Kenyans are looking at a criminal who have admitted stealing to be elected MP. So Kuria rigged his competitors out.

Murathe also confirmed that Kuria brought forth 4000 votes from a location of 800 registered voters. Kuria admitted being corrupt and therefore he should be barred from politics.

IEBC should not clear Moses Kuria to vie for any political office in Kenya for publicly admitting that he stole votes to win elections.

He must pay a huge punitive penalty by getting banned for life from participating in any political office run. Kuria is not above the law by any means.

Why did Kuria withhold vital information about rigging the 2017 elections? I believe the statute of limitation has not expired such an offence as concealing vital and pertinent testimony ...I dont think these are merely rantings of a drunk man.
As a deterrent to this kind of behavior,Kuria should only be exonerated upon giving evidence of his claim.Otherwise, let him go sleep on kitanda infested with chawa, and drink some porridge with flies, and weevils doing some gymnastic in the cup.
