Kiambu Politician Gladys Chania to be Charged with Husband’s Murder

Kiambu politician Gladys Chania will be charged with the murder of her husband Eng. George Mwangi, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said on Friday.

Chania appeared before Kiambu Law Courts Resident Magistrate Wilson Radin'g on Friday but did not take a plea as she will have to undergo a psychiatrist test at Mathari Mental Hospital on Tuesday to determine if she is fit to stand trial.

Detectives believe Mwangi, who worked in Rwanda and had returned to the country on September 13th, was killed in cold blood due to his love affair with Lucy Muthoni, a secretary at a local school.

The body of the 58-year-old electrical engineer and road contractor was found wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped in Kieni Forest in Gatundu North on October 12th, the day he was supposed to fly back to Kigali.

Investigations showed the deceased was hit on the head with a blunt object and his face disfigured with acid, according to detectives.

Chania, who unsuccessfully vied for Kiambu County Woman Representative seat at the August 9th election, was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on October 14th in connection with his death.

Detectives visited the deceased's home in Mang'u, the suspected murder scene, and recovered some of the weapons believed to have been used to brutally kill the engineer. The DCI said the weapons were found stashed in the master bedroom.

Chania, a former Kiambu TNA party coordinator, filed a missing person’s report at Kamwangi police station on October 9th, and later that evening at Mwea police post. She claimed that her husband went downstairs that morning and then disappeared.

Mwangi was laid to rest at his Mang’u home in Gatundu North on Thursday.

She vied for a political post and lost. Luck is still on her side because she will be appointed to be a jailbird trustee at Lang'ata Prison and will probably serve her incarcerated constituents for life.

Nobody understands the pain of a woman scorned as the woman herself. Men, if you no longer desire your wife, divorce her, give her security and a soft landing, then move on with the one that you now think, or fool yourself, will satisfy you. She will appreciate your honesty. I hope the judge will take these points into consideration when sentencing her. I also hope that she'll be judged by a woman judge.

@ Mutuura Mwangi, you were doing very well advocating for this lady, till you messed up by saying..."I also hope that she ll be judged by a woman judge". Just because a judge is a aman does not mean that they are insensitive to the needs of women. We need the judge, whoever it is to apply the law "blindly",and objectively, And not influences by personal prejudices.
