Kenyan Man Dies After Falling Inside a FIFA World Cup Stadium in Qatar

A Kenyan man died in Qatar on Tuesday after allegedly falling inside one of the stadiums hosting the ongoing FIFA World Cup matches.

24-year-old John Njau Kibe from Dagoretti, Nairobi, reportedly died from the injuries he sustained from a fall on December 10th, according to the family.

Kibe's uncle Sam Njau said his nephew had just finished his shift after the quarter-final match between Argentina and Netherlands and was handing over to the next shift when the fatal accident happened. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

"He fell on Saturday after the match between Argentina and Netherlands. They were changing shifts. He was admitted at Hamad Hospital and died yesterday," he said on Wednesday.

Njau recalled Kibe's last moments, saying that he was in a celebratory mood after the team he was supporting (Argentina) won the match.

"The sister was in communication with him. He talked with her up to the last minute on WhatsApp before he went to hand over," he said.

Njau said the family does not know the nature of the fall and is yet to receive any formal communication from Qatari or Kenyan authorities on the incident.

"We are still in the dark about what happened. There are some people who were following up but a formal communication has not been made to us. No one has reached out formally to us, but the Kenyan embassy has taken up the matter," he said.

"As of now we are not blaming the employer or anyone just that the parents are distraught," he added.

Kibe, the only son in a family of three siblings, went to Qatar in November last year in search of greener pastures and was always happy about his work, his uncle said.

Why would anyone even think of blaming an employer for an obvious accident?!

The uncle is a very realistic and wise man! Not jumping into conclusions, waiting for formal report to be delivered to the family!

Quite unfortunate, this fine man’s life was cut short! May the aggrieved find solace and May he RIP.
