Kenyan Man Arrested in Maryland After Woman's Remains Found in His Vehicle

32-year-old Kenyan man Nobert Matara has been arrested in the United States after the remains of a 31-year-old Kenyan woman Tracy Nyariki were found in his vehicle on December 21.

The apprehension followed a thorough investigation initiated by concerns from the victim’s colleagues, who reported her absence from work over several days. The Aberdeen Police Department began a welfare check at the victim’s residence in the Village of Kent Apartments in Bear, New York, after receiving a missing person's report.

During the check, officers uncovered evidence that suggested potential foul play, prompting an escalation in the investigation. On December 21, the New Castle County Police Department in Delaware reached out to Aberdeen authorities to locate a male described as “homicidal.”

This collaboration led to the identification and subsequent discovery of the suspect’s vehicle in Aberdeen. Police reports indicate that officers responded to the 1100 block of S. Philadelphia Boulevard around 5:00 PM, where they located the suspect nearby.

"On Saturday, 21 December 2024, at 5:00 pm, officers from the Aberdeen Police Department were asked by the New Castle County Police Department in Delaware to assist in locating a missing person and a potential male homicidal individual," part of the Aberdeen Police report stated.

A search of his vehicle revealed human remains, leading to his immediate arrest. Currently, the suspect is being held in custody in Aberdeen, pending extradition to Delaware to face murder charges.

Authorities have suggested that further charges may arise as the investigation continues. The nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim, who were reportedly acquaintances, is under examination, with law enforcement withholding details surrounding the lead-up to the fatal incident.

"He is in jail in Maryland awaiting extradition to Delaware on first-degree murder charges. As evidence continues to be collected in the ongoing investigation." the police report reads.
