Emotional Tributes as Family Honours Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo
Former Lugari MP Cyrus Shakhalaga Khwa Jirongo was honoured at a memorial service where emotional tributes highlighted his influence as a political figure and family man.
Jirongo died on 13 December at the age of 64 after a road accident involving his private vehicle and a passenger bus on the Nakuru–Nairobi highway. His death has been described by his family as a significant personal loss and a moment to reflect on his lasting impact.
During the service, his three wives delivered eulogies that focused on different aspects of his life and character. Together, their accounts presented a detailed picture of a man whose presence shaped both public and private spaces.
Anne Kanini described Jirongo as a source of strength and guidance within the family. She spoke of his commitment to hard work, his confidence, and his care for those around him. She noted that his absence had left a deep sense of loss and encouraged family members to find comfort in faith.
Christine Nyokabi recalled Jirongo as a bold and outspoken figure known for his strong personality. Referring to his long-standing nickname, “CJ the Man”, she said he was direct, humorous, and impossible to ignore. His laughter and honesty, she said, defined his interactions with others.
Anne Lanoi focused on his role within the home, describing him as attentive and dependable. She spoke of his regular communication, practical advice, and shared humour. She said he played a central role in guiding their children and promoting values such as discipline and perseverance.
The tributes reflected the contrast between Jirongo’s public career, which was marked by prominence and controversy, and his private life, where he was described as deeply committed to his family. Family members said his political record would remain part of Kenya’s history, but his greatest legacy lay in his relationships as a husband, father, and friend.
They described him as courageous, engaging, and devoted, qualities they said would continue to define his memory.
