Police Probe Killing of Mechanic Found Dead in Nakuru East
Police in Nakuru East are investigating the death of 30‑year‑old mechanic Martin Muthomi, whose body was discovered in a roadside trench on Wednesday morning with fatal stab wounds to the abdomen.
Residents reported hearing a loud scream shortly after midnight but remained indoors out of fear. By dawn, Muthomi’s body was found in the trench with severe injuries and heavy blood loss. Local officials confirmed that his intestines were exposed, highlighting the brutality of the attack.
Community leaders have linked the killing to ongoing insecurity in the area. The local chief noted that young men on motorbikes have been involved in robberies, though the motive in this case remains unclear as there were no witnesses.
The incident follows a series of violent crimes across Nakuru County. In October 2025, four suspects in the murder of a police officer attempted to escape custody during a court hearing but were recaptured. Earlier, on 1 June, another officer was shot dead in Freehold, with two colleagues critically injured in what investigators described as an attack by organised criminal groups.
In the months before, several fatal robberies were reported. Within two days in late May, shopkeeper Paul Dong was killed in Ndege Ndimu, while Jackson Wangi was shot dead in Pipeline. Around the same time, Enoch Kipkoech was gunned down in Arap Chumo while responding to distress calls during a raid.
In Soilo, a 24‑year‑old trader was attacked with machetes and daggers before being shot dead, with the attackers stealing large sums of money. These repeated incidents have heightened public concern and increased pressure on law enforcement to restore order.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is working with local police to establish the circumstances surrounding Muthomi’s death.
