ODM to Convene Special Delegates Convention in Nairobi on March 27

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will hold a Special Delegates Convention on 27 March 2026 in Nairobi. The meeting will bring together senior officials, elected representatives, and grassroots leaders from across the country.

The convention is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will include participants from the party’s top bodies, including the National Executive Committee and the Parliamentary Group. Delegates from the ODM Youth, Women, and Disability Leagues, as well as county leaders and branch chairpersons, are also expected to attend. The gathering is being convened under the party’s constitution, citing Articles 47, 49, 51(3)(d), and 21(1)(i).

The agenda focuses on leadership and governance issues within the party. Delegates will be asked to ratify a resolution from the National Governing Council regarding party leadership and to note a National Executive Committee resolution relating to Article 87 of the constitution. The programme will also include speeches from senior officials and an address by the party leader.

The timing of the convention comes as ODM undergoes internal restructuring and leadership changes, which have affected the grassroots organisation. Earlier this month, elections for delegates in Kisumu County were cancelled following a directive from party leader Oburu Oginga, who cited the current political climate for the postponement.

The ODM Parliamentary Group has recently endorsed decisions indicating a strategic shift, including the formal installation of Oburu Oginga as party leader and the continuation of negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election. The group also supported ongoing cooperation with UDA, a decision that has prompted discussion within party ranks.
