Kalonzo Musyoka Condemns Tseikuru Killings, Demands Government Accountability
Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned a deadly attack in Tseikuru, Kitui County, where seven people were killed, and called on the government to account for the security lapse.
The attack took place on Saturday evening in Kamari village, Tseikuru sub-county, when more than 40 armed assailants arrived in two unmarked vehicles. Witnesses said the group, believed to be from a pastoralist community, opened fire using automatic rifles, killing several residents and causing panic.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Kalonzo described the killings as a serious failure of governance. He said the incident was organised and coordinated, and questioned why intelligence and security agencies did not prevent it. He added that the violence reflects a broader pattern of insecurity in the country.
Kalonzo criticised President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, asking how heavily armed groups are able to move across regions without detection. He noted that the attackers had previously entered the Mwingi North Game Reserve, an issue that had been reported to authorities without action being taken.
The Wiper leader, a former Member of Parliament for the area, pointed to long-standing tensions in Tseikuru and nearby regions. He said recurring pastoralist migrations have led to displacement, disrupted education, and continued violence, while successive governments have failed to implement lasting solutions.
He called on the Inspector General of Police to increase security deployment in Tseikuru and the wider Mwingi North area. He also urged a full investigation, the arrest of those responsible, and efforts to remove illegal firearms from Kitui and neighbouring counties.
Kalonzo expressed sympathy with the families of those killed and said the government has a duty to protect citizens’ lives, which he argued was not met in this case.
