Celebrated Kenyan musician Kevin Bahati and his spouse, Diana Marua, have made history as the first Kenyan family to debut a reality TV show on the international streaming platform, Netflix.
Titled "The Bahati Empire," the unscripted series promises to offer an authentic and unfiltered glimpse into the lives of this power couple and their family. The official premiere of "The Bahati Empire" is slated for Friday, June 7, 2024, and the anticipation surrounding this momentous occasion has reached fever pitch. The grand launch event was a star-studded affair, graced by esteemed figures including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Lang'ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor (better known as Jalang'o), and nominated Senator Karen Nyamu, among other notable personalities.
Bahati and Diana Marua are no strangers to the reality TV realm, having previously captivated audiences with their show "Being Bahati," later rebranded as "Bahati Reality," which aired on national television. This time, however, their journey takes an unprecedented leap as they venture onto the global stage with Netflix, a platform renowned for its unparalleled reach and influence. The trailer for "The Bahati Empire" promises a riveting exploration of the couple's lives, featuring not only their immediate family but also appearances from prominent figures such as The Murayas, Karen Nyamu, Jalang'o, and Rev Lucy Natasha.
With an unscripted format, the show vows to unveil the highs and lows that define the Bahati family. Expressing his elation, Bahati acknowledges the profound significance of their achievement, stating, "We were the first Kenyan family to have a reality show on national TV (Being Bahati on NTV), and now we make history as the first Kenyan family to have a reality show on Netflix. All glory goes to our Lord Jesus Christ."
Bahati has assured viewers that the show will address rumours, share their triumphs and tribulations, and provide an unparalleled look into their life.
Speaking during the launch, Gachagua, drew parallels between his own life journey and that of the renowned musician Kevin Bahati. Gachagua articulates that Bahati's ascent from humble beginnings as an orphan to global recognition through his musical prowess resonates deeply with his own experiences of overcoming adversity. Reminiscing about his childhood, the Deputy President reveals that he was born in a grass-thatched house to parents who were Mau Mau freedom fighters. He acknowledges the challenges he faced, stating, "My feet were invested by Jesus, and it was only after coming to Nairobi many years later that I learned to walk well. But I have never looked back, and I believe in myself."
Gachagua commends the creative industry, emphasizing the government's commitment to its growth and development through the "Talanta Hela" initiative. He highlights the unlimited opportunities the industry offers, particularly for the youth, and praises Diana and Bahati for their trailblazing efforts in taking Kenyan content to a global audience.
