Maraga Takes 2027 Presidential Campaign to Kenyans in the US

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has begun a three-week tour of the United States to engage Kenyans living abroad as he campaigns for the presidency in the 2027 general election.

Maraga arrived at Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, marking the start of a series of meetings with diaspora communities across several states. He said the tour would provide an opportunity to discuss Kenya's future and engage Kenyans on issues affecting the country.

The itinerary begins in Washington, DC, before moving to Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. Maraga is also scheduled to spend several days in Minnesota before travelling to Georgia, Houston and Dallas. The tour is expected to conclude on 5 October.

The engagements are expected to include town-hall meetings where members of the Kenyan diaspora can discuss governance, development and national unity. In a message posted on X, Maraga invited Kenyans in the US to take part in discussions centred on faith, integrity and service.

The tour, branded Maraga'27, follows the Ukatiba Caravan, which earlier this year travelled through 43 counties in Kenya. The US programme marks an expansion of his political outreach to Kenyans living abroad.

Maraga formally declared his presidential bid in June and was presented as the United Green Movement's flag bearer. His campaign is built around the slogan Reset, Restore, Rebuild, with a focus on governance reforms and restoring public trust in institutions.

Maraga has said his decision to seek the presidency followed consultations with Kenyans at home and abroad, including younger people who have called for greater political accountability. The US tour forms part of his broader efforts to engage the diaspora, which plays an important role in Kenya's economy through remittances and investments.
