Media personality and Reggae MC Mary Njambi Koikai's father Daniel Koikai has died.
Daniel Koikai has died just weeks after the untimely passing of media personality and Reggae MC Mary Njambi Koikai due to complications from endometriosis. The timing of his demise, which occurred on the very day of Njambi's burial at Lang'ata Cemetery, adds grief to an already devastating loss. Before his demise, Daniel Koikai had the opportunity to pay a heartfelt tribute to his late daughter and seek forgiveness for any shortcomings he may have had as a father. In a poignant eulogy, he expressed remorse for any acts of omission or commission during Njambi's life, highlighting the special moments they shared and emphasizing the profound pain of bidding farewell to a beloved child.
The cause of Daniel Koikai's death remains unknown, however, some reports suggest it may have been self-initiated. Njambi's mother, sister, aunts, uncles, and close friends both within and outside the country are left reeling from the compounded loss. Njambi Koikai's battle with endometriosis was well-documented, and she had been a vocal advocate for raising awareness and improving healthcare for the painful disorder. Endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing inflammation, was exacerbated by late diagnosis and inadequate treatment options in Kenya.
In the weeks leading up to her passing, Njambi had urgently requested blood donations, posting on her social media handle and urging Kenyans to contribute blood of type O positive. While mourning the loss of his beloved daughter, Koikai described their connection as a mix of joyful and challenging moments, as he had been working abroad during her formative years and only met her when she was in high school. The grieving father also revealed the last message his daughter had sent him just a day before her passing. From her hospital bed, Njambi expressed heartfelt gratitude to her father and listed a few items she wished for him to bring her.
"Hi Dad, I hope you got home safely. I would need some red berry orange water from Del Monte, as well as fresh orange and passion fruit juice. The doctors are here, so I'll have to go, but we'll talk tomorrow. It was wonderful to see you and reconnect," her message read.
