Al Shabaab Militants Behead 9 People in Lamu

At least nine people have been confirmed dead following an attack in Lamu County on Friday night by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.

A police officer said the attackers raided Jima village in Lamu West on Friday at 11pm and herded some villagers together and butchered them using knives.

“The number is likely to increase to above 10 since some people are unaccounted for following the attack,” said the police who sought anonymity told Nations.

Confirming the incident, Linda Boni Operation Director James Ole Seriani said that police officers have been deployed to pursue the militants who escaped towards Boni Forest after committing the heinous act.

One of the residents, Kaingu Kadzomba said that the militants were singling out men during the attack while sparing women and Children.

The Friday attack barely a day after Jima residents woke up to mysterious footprints of suspected Al-Shabaab militants who have carried out a series of attacks in various parts of the county for the past one month.

Jima village is only two kilometers from Pandanguo where the militants attacked a police station and killed three police officers earlier this week.

No official communication has been made from police authorities in the County and in the Country concerning the incident.
