Bungoma senator Moses Wetang'ula will stop enjoying allowances totaling to millions of shillings following his removal as the Senate Minority Leader.
The Ford Kenya leader has been pocketing a monthly salary of Sh765,188, this is Sh143,938 more than the Sh621,250 that ordinary senators take home per month.
Additionally, the premium life insurance that he has being enjoying by virtue of being the Minority leader will be withdrawn.
Equally, the National Super Alliance (Nasa) co-principal will lose the government-provided Mercedes Benz car, which is fuelled by taxpayers money, six police officers — two manning his rural home, two for his Nairobi residence and two bodyguards who accompany him.
He will further be required to vacate the expansive office of the Minority Leader located at the Senate buildings, opposite the Speaker’s Chambers. In the office, a personal assistant, legal researchers, a secretary and two researchers were all at his disposal.
Wetang'ula was also entitled to fully funded international trips, which he will no longer enjoy. Nasa senators behind his ouster accused him of being arrogant and abrasive.
Attempts by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to have Wetang'ula get back his seat failed as senators stayed put.
“We met, we deliberated and agreed that the Senate is an independent institution and we made the decision of retaining Orengo as our elected leader,” Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina told the Star after a retreat chaired by Odinga on Thursday.
On Tuesday, 19 senators voted in favor of removing Wetang'ula and endorsed Siaya senator James Orengo as the new Minority Leader.
Kenyan politicians living better than those in first world on poor tax payers money. Someone bring me a bucket to puke in. The replacement will not make things better for common mwananchi.
