The family of Kenyan media mogul SK Macharia is mourning the death of their son, John Macharia.
John was involved in a grisly road crash on the Southern Bypass in Nairobi on Thursday night and was rushed to the Karen Hospital, where he passed on. His passenger survived.
Confirming the accident, Karen OCPD Cunningham Suiyanka said the crash happened at around 10pm on the Southern Bypass.
John is reported to have been speeding when he lost control of his Porsche 911 Turbo S and veered off the road. Until his demise, he was the director and founder of Triple A Finance and Direct Line Assurance.
The same car is said to have been involved in another crash on Waiyaki Way in November, 2016. John was reportedly arrested and charged with drink driving.
"Just learnt of the premature death of my long-time friend John Macharia in a grisly road accident along Southern Bypass. May his soul rest in peace," Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino said in a tweet.
SK Macharia is the owner of Royal Media Services which runs Citizen TV, Inooro TV and over 10 FM stations.

The article does not say he was drunk while driving. Neither does it talk of the speed he was supposedly driving at. His family is in mourning, and you should be sensitive to that, Mr. KNOW IT ALL.
Try to replace all that bile and negative energy with some love and empathy, everything will be alright.
@Halisi I concur with you on the last sentence but also let us not forget loosing a child is one of the worst heartache no parent should ever have to experience. I am sure you have your own puppies so let us take good care and educate them as much as possible.
The rich also cry...anyone remember that soap opera?
Is it true that the Gikuyu elders cursed SK Macharia not too long ago for supporting Raila's destruction of the country and causing violence during elections?
They sacrificed a he-goat and fed it to the gods. The curse is so severe you wish for your own demise because you watch your loved ones suffer and your wealth can't help you, relatives and friends run away from you to avoid getting the curse, and you end up dying lonely coz even no one shows up at your funeral 😟😕
Some folks are just too insensitive! That's someone's son, brother, brother etc & lost his life.
I believe they are haters of the wealthy.
Poleni sana mbari ya Macharia.
Condolences to his family & friends. It sucks to loose a brother, son, friend. Unfortunately this young man could have lived to enjoy his wealth and help others but his wealth took him only because he made the decision to speed. Driving such a fast car that has about 500 hp and costs over $100,000 requires discipline but ego can lie to you.
@ Anonymous "yes, 100 Gikûyú elders met in Ndakaini Village last year and cursed him. He was given 14 days to recant his disrespectful statement about Kibaki but never did, then it was too late to remove the curse.... unfortunately this is just the beginning 😔😕😔😔.
Curses work if all forces align themselves..😨
@Synonymous, stop being superstitious hata uki-overspeed na kulewa you blame the busy-body 100 Gikuyu elders who are idle and good for nothing.
@Kenya, It's those like you who have cultivated the intellectual and forgotten the spiritual, those that believe only in what they see😞, I believe in the wind I feel it blowing but I've never seen it,I believe in heat, I feel it I've never seen it. I feel cold though I've never seen cold.I believe in spirits, they dwell in bodies of humans and others in the air. I'll respect my elders whether Kikuyu or otherwise, you should be asking yourself what spirit took over control of the Porsche and slammed it into the pole! Ever wonder why people go mad? If you can learn the unspoken language, the one only few understand and your inner eyes will be opened. Insulting the 100 elders calling them idle and good for nothing has brought a curse upon you......only you will realize what you brought upon yourself and household... tame your tongue and thoughts. All is mind and mind is all.
@Synonymous, wacha uchawi. where is individual responsibility. When you over speed you increase your chance of getting a road accident same to driving when you are drunk. Blaming 100 busy-body for drunk driving or over-speed is outrageous
@ Synonymous. This kind of BS belongs to the lazy in mind. One coincidence is meaningless. Anyone could have predicted this was going to happen at some point, given his high risk tendencies. Creating mystery where none exists only leads to unnecessary complications. Make them curse me if you want.
@Anos,Kenya whoever you are (you seem to have a personality disorder that's why you're posting under different names) anyway, since your mind is so active why didn't you predict this, there's no mystery here...the b.s. is what's in your mind... I can't make them curse you,you curse yourself.
I didn’t need to predict it. That is irrelevant. You trying to invoke the spiritual here is what is relevant. Simply because it is the son of a wealthy man. Countless of curses are are made out each day. How many of those turn out as cursed? If 1 out of 10 comes out true, we pretend that the spiritual works. If we think that way, then we must accept that the spiritual is useless 9 out of 10 times. That is woefully dismal. You claim you can not see the wind or heat. I can provide you with instruments that give you precise wind speed and direction, or the exact temperature. Provide me one that measures the spiritual vector or scalar. And while on that tell me how exactly you diagnosed that I have a personality disorder. Or that I post under different guise. Of forever stfu.
@Anos, well said.
The guardian angel gets out of the car once you drive over 80 m/hr or drive drunk. In 2016 he was involved in another accident and was arrested of drunk driving.
Poleni to the Macharias.
Don’t drink n drive if u have drink brookside, lala milk.To me I have no feelings for drunkards n drugs takers who drink n drive.Drunk n driving over 240km n he was caught n warned before.Let him go,he can rest safe with his gods.Such idiots drink n drive n end up killing more pple with accidents on the road.
