Jailed Former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo Passes Away

Former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo has passed on at the age of 68.
Gakuo passed away on Tuesday morning while receiving treatment at Mbagathi Hospital. He was admitted at the hospital after falling sick while at Nairobi West Prison.
Gakuo was handed a three-year jail sentence in May this year alongside former Local Government PS Sammy Kirui after they were found guilty in the Sh283 million Mavoko cemetery land scam.
The two appealed the sentence but in July, 2018 the High Court dismissed their application seeking to be freed on bail pending the hearing and determination of their appeal.
In his ruling, Justice John Onyiego of the Economic and Crimes Division ruled that the two failed to demonstrate that their appeal has high chances of success.
Judge Onyiengo further said he was not convinced that Gakuo’s alleged ill health was a justifiable reason.

Setting corruption aside: Gakuo put Nairobi on Path to its Green Beauty many of us are Enjoying now. So Feelings about Gakuo's death and Memories of his Tenure as Town clerk puts some of us in a Bind; between a Rock and a Hard place. So sad.

C'mmon @Guest1, that's not what you said when Gakuo was jailed. Now you can utter all the good deeds the man did while in office. To the corrupt big wigs out there, Gakuo will not carry the millions to grave.
