Nairobi CBD Fumigated to Control Spread of Coronavirus

Officials from the Health Ministry and Nairobi County on Thursday began fumigating all public places with the city center.

The exercise is aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus by sanitizing public places such as bus stops, buses, market places, public sitting places, walkways, buildings and walls within the central business district.

Nairobi County Deputy Director for Health Wilson Langat said the exercise will be carried out continuously.

“We have diluted the chlorine so that it does not affect the public. Our priority at the moment is to disinfect hot spot areas in the CBD where the public often crowd,” he said.

Over 700 liters of chemicals have been acquired to help in the fumigation exercise.

The cleansing comes a day after Kenya confirmed three more Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to seven.

The three new patients include a couple who returned to the country from Madrid, Spain and a Burundian national who had traveled from Dubai on Tuesday.

All the seven cases involve people who recently came back to the country from abroad, according to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
