Miracle: Missing Kenyan Man Pulled Out of 60-Foot Pit Alive After 13 Days

In what villagers have termed as a miracle, a 42-year-old Kenyan man who was reported missing last month was pulled out of a 60-foot well after staying there for 13 days.

Royford Mugambi, a mentally challenged man, disappeared on the morning of May 22nd, 2020, from his elderly mother’s home in Gatituni village in Chuka, Tharaka-Nithi County.

His elder brother Henry Gitonga said the family was almost losing hope of tracing him after they searched everywhere, including Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary. His disappearance was also reported at Chuka Police Station.

Mugambi was retrieved from the well on Wednesday after a neighbor, John Mwenda heard some voices emanating from the pit as he was working on his farm. When he called out, Mugambi responded and requested for some water.

“After confirming that it was Mugambi who had disappeared for days, Mwenda rushed and informed his father before proceeding to our home and broke the shocking news,” said Gitonga.

“His body was pale, completely emaciated and he was totally confused when he came out,” he added.

Medics advised the family to give him glucose solution and some milk for a few days before introducing him to porridge and later soft food.

It is suspected Mugambi had been feeding on soil and water in the well for survival.
