Gov’t Denies Imported Cuban Doctors will Earn More Than their Kenyan Counterparts

The Kenya government has refuted reports that the 20 Cuban doctors hired to help in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic will pocket sky-high salaries.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe termed the reports as untrue, saying the foreign medical specialists who arrived in the country on Friday will be paid like their Kenyan counterparts.

He further explained that the Cuban medics are in the country to exchange skills and expertise with their Kenyan counterparts attending to Covid-19 patients.

“We are not paying more than what we pay our own and I want this to be noted clearly. It is a small brigade of doctors who are specialists in their own areas who have come to help us, we learn from them and they also learn from us,” said Kagwe.

The doctors with a specialty in internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, renal, and pediatrics will be deployed to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) and will work in the country for three months.

“With the COVID-19 cases rising, these specialized doctors will go a long way in supporting our doctors in managing the disease and also in exchanging of skilled development,” added Kagwe.

The team is drawn from the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade established by Fidel Castro in 2005 to handle emergencies and serious epidemics.

President Kenyatta is said to have personally phoned his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel requesting him to send in the medics.

Cuban doctors need to push Kenyan doctors and nurses out of Kenyan health care system.
In fact,
Kenyan doctors and nurses need to go home and practice social distancing.

I don’t know why they want to catch corona.

How are they going to work in other countries if they get COVID-19 and die???

Kenya doctors and nurses need to be serious about exiting the Kenyan health care system.

Akufukuzaye akwambiii toka.

Kenya has experienced doctors working in other countries who are experts who can teach and train their fellow Kenyans if called upon to do so by our government,of course with the correct pay. Kenya has not tried that route. Since Independence, Kenya has always called for foreign experts. We are a country that does not believe in its own Doctors, Engineers, Teachers, builders, managers, lawyers, prosecutors etc. We do not believe in Kenyan education system because its also foreign. If the education system we have is not good enough to produce our own experts, its time to change it.
Luckily, we are living in a time of Revelation and Restoration. We just have to wait patiently. Changes are slowly but surely happening for the black nation around the world. Changes not directed by man but by The Most High (black man's God)!!

Kenya doctors and nurses need to look for opportunities in other countries.

The Kenyan government has looted the health care System completely. Why are they even working in hospitals with nonPPE, medication and beds???

It’s time for Kenyan doctors and nurses to join the diaspora community.

COVID-19 is a political problem in kenya, not a health care problem.

a typical black person always waiting on God for change. Hasn't Africa waited for God for over 50yrs yet things got worse? I just hope this continent will get to a time not believing in Islam or Christianity and other religions doesn't mean they are abnormal.

On the part about foreign experts. The mentality in Africa is anyone who is non-African descent is automatically considered better than Africans. You can bring a peasant from Ukraine and give him/her a suit and tie and I assure you he/she will command a higher wage than the African expert. If it so easy to pay experts higher wages then why is it hard to do the same for local experts?

Because the problem is political .

Uhuru Kenyatta and his whole family steal money allocated for new-norms and pregnant women.

It is politicians and government officials who are stealing from the Kenyan health sector.

CORONA is also a political problem in Kenya not medical.

Kenya health care problems are political not medical.

It doesn’t matter what the doctors do or how much money is pumped in the system, the government will always loot the funds and no one will be arrested.

Dear Kenyan doctors and nurses, it’s time to leave the Kenyan health care system while your still alive.

The Kenyan government stole all the medication money , PPE funds , no beds or water in hospitals anyways.

Get out NOW!!!

At this time, the priority is to save lives anyway we can. Cuba has managed to keep COVID-19 away. what can we learn from these doctors? it is foolish to tell Kenyan doctors and nurses to go home. Then, what happens in Kenya? don't we care about the welfare of our people. One may be angry with the government and some of their choices are not right, but think about your people going to hospitals and clinics and finding no one there to help. Then what? We need all hands on deck on deck if we are to stop COVID-19. Use logic, science and human empathy to respond to COVID-19.
