Kenyan MP’s Sh4 Million Hospital Bill Shocker After Battling Covid-19 for 42 Days
Dadaab MP Mohamed Dahir Duale has become the second MP to publicly announce he was infected with Covid-19.
Dahir, who has since fully recovered, said he was admitted to the hospital for 42 days and found himself fighting for his life in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly Health Committee where Health CS Mutahi Kagwe was being questioned on various issues, Dahir said his case is a testament that Covid-19 is real and containment measures should be taken seriously.
“I want to admit that I suffered from Corona, I spent 42 days in the hospital of which eight were in ICU. I thank God for our employer the Parliamentary Service Commission for they paid my bill which amounted to almost Sh4 million. I wonder how other Kenyans are managing,” Dahir said on Wednesday.
Dahir spoke hours after his Gatundu South counterpart Moses Kuria revealed he was admitted at Karen Hospital in Nairobi for 27 days after contracting the disease.
“I really hope that beyond all the debate around Covid-19, all and sundry will not forget that Corona Virus is real. The worst thing we can do is to lower our guard!” Kuria said in a Facebook post.
“And above all let us remember our gallant front line workers- Not just doctors and nurses like but subordinate staff who put their lives in the line of danger to give care to Corona Virus patients. If you are in a hospital bed- Like myself for the last 27 days here at Karen Hospital you witness first-hand the amount of sacrifice they make amid very difficult circumstances,” he added.
Reports previously suggested that several MPs had been infected with Covid-19 but parliament downplayed the claims.

MP Duale - please let your testament here be your guiding light when you return to parliament to discuss the people’s business!
Very few Kenyans can barely afford to pay shs 4 million of a hospital bill! Many Kenyans get sick and the only ICU they can attend is the ragged bed on the floor of their “homes@while the wife (home doctor) attends the sick with some half cooked chicken soup and prayers!
So, when you return to parliament, please do remember those Kenyans who look up to you and those others they elected to decide on their health care and many other things that directly affect them!
I’m glad you opened up to give courage to those who are suffering in secrecy! Be well!

We keep hearing of this and that MP was infected by covid19 while no one seems to care about the 34,000 Kenyans who have been infected, and those who scrubbed to covid19; they died a miserable death!
We keep hearing of covid19 billions stolen while no one has been arrested and the money recovered to help those in need.
And we keep hearing of Abado and company stealing people’s money and the DO Ruto jumping into a political fray to help his corrupt friend Abado against impeachment! Please Ruto, you can kiss my ass if this is the best you can do! What a shame!,
Is the life of Moses Kuria and Duele more important that the lives of other Kenyans? To add the butter salt to the injury, you tell us how much parliament paid for the hospital bills of the two sick MPs! Really, isn’t life a big bitch; for lack of better word??
Who does not seriously think that we do need a clean change in Kenya? Raise 🖐up your hand if you think we can continue living under siege in our own country!
Time has come for a change to take place! None of these political crowns need to be part of the new change. We need to force change in Kenya!!

When I think about democracy (government of, for, and by the people), I honestly do not think the democracy we have in Kenya is what was envisaged in the initial constitutional dispensation upon independence of Kenya!
Everything that is currently happening to ordinary Kenyans runs contrary to their desired wishes and values of democracy! We have a father who is living large eating all the meat in the house; while the kids and the mother are living in Githeri diet! Where is democracy in this analogy?
Only the top 1% of Kenyans enjoy the values of democracy! The rest of us are strictly confined to the misery of democracy! So, is our system of government democratic? I tend to strong differ with those in the 1% group!
