'No Foreigner is Handling Huduma Namba Program', Matiang'i Responds to DP William Ruto Allies

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has trashed claims that foreigners have been hired to work on the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS), popularly known as Huduma Namba.

On Thursday, Deputy President William Ruto allies led by Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika alleged that there was a scheme to manipulate data through Huduma Namba in preparation for the rigging of the 2022 presidential election.

The MPs claimed that some expatriates had been procured privately to steer the second phase of the program.

“Why is the National Intelligence Service being involved in the proposed registration rather than the parent ministry?” Senator Kihika asked.

“There is nothing like registration of Kenyans, these people just want to plunder public resources and use foreigners have been brought in to rig the 2022 elections,” she added.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa said: “These are shadowy criminal activities being carried out by leaders who do not have the interest of this country at heart.”

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa posed: “Share with Kenyans the outcome of the first phase, and how much was used. It is obvious the first one flopped. So, why do we need another one?”

The MPs spoke in Kajiado while accompanying DP Ruto to the Olngesher Lool Ilmerishie ceremony of the Matapato clan of the Maasai community.

But in a statement on Friday, CS Matiang’i stated that the program is being implemented solely by Kenyans.

“The database logistics and the software for NIIMS are 100 percent Kenyan government-funded, designed and developed and solely managed by Kenyans,” said Matiang’i.

“The government urges Kenyans to be wary of misinformation and conspiracy theories propagated about Huduma Namba.”

“Everybody will have an opportunity through either the mass registration session two or themselves walking to the registrar of persons in future if they also miss out because this will be a continuous process to eternity,” added Matiang’i.
