Doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital Successfully Replant 7-Year-Old Boy's Severed Hand

Doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) are celebrating another milestone after successfully performing another complex surgery.

This comes after a multi-disciplinary team of surgeons and other specialists at the hospital reattached a severed hand belonging to a seven-year-old boy in an operation that lasted eight hours.

The boy, Young Benovelence, got one of his upper limbs accidentally chopped off by a chaff cutter on October 4th in Kiambu.

“After the chopped hand reached KNH in a cool box, our team of specialists embarked on an intricate eight hours’ surgical procedure that reclaimed the boy’s hand”, said KNH in a statement.

The young patient is in stable condition and is recovering in the ward as he continues with treatment.

The latest hand reattachment operation is the fifth successful surgery of its kind that medics at KNH have performed since the first case in early 2018.

“As KNH, we endeavor to pursue our strategic destination of being a multi-specialty center of excellence by offering services that meet international certification standards. We continue to improve our skills in specialized care by building the capacity of our specialists and investing in the best facilities available in the region,” the hospital added.
