Kakamega High School Closed as Fire Destroys Two Hostels, 16 Students Arrested

Kakamega Boys High School was on Saturday closed indefinitely following a fire incident.
Two dormitories were burnt down during the 6:00 am inferno whose cause was not immediately established.
The hostels went up in flames when students were in classes for morning studies and no casualties were reported.
The school’s Principal Gerald Orina said the fire was put out with the assistance of the fire brigade from the county government of Kakamega.
“The teachers on duty had already put the students in class and immediately after at 5.45 am, we saw some fire in the dormitories. We went to put out the fire in order to save some of the students’ properties,” he said.
Kakamega County Police Commander Hassan Barua said 16 students were arrested following the incident.
Similar incidents have been witnessed in several schools across the country in the past two weeks.
Some of the affected schools include Buruburu Girls High in Nairobi, Chavakali Boys in Vihiga, Kanjuri High School in Nyeri, and Sigalame Boys, among others.

We've lots of Educated FOOLS in the Kenya Ministry of Education who seem to have Learnt nothing (in the Universities they went to) about STRESS and it's Effects on People (especially Teachers, Parents, and worst of all, STUDENTS as we Speak). Why not just Keep the Hitherto System of Education (instead of Making FOOLS of Yourselves with an Irrelevant new system)? There is no Doubt many of these Educated FOOLS sat for LEAKED Exams and "passed" with DAMNING colors.

What solutions do you have? What is the best education system according to you? Have you forwarded any suggestions to those concerned or you are just following the media blindly and bashing a system and calling people names on information you seldom know anything about? Get the facts fast and be respectful.

That's why I call the Educated FOOLS. Them Ministry of Education and Teachers don't Know a Damn thing. They're akin to "Chicken with their Legs cut off; or "Chicken with their Heads cut off."

I am not sure why kids need to be in class at 5:45am? What time do they go to bed? At this age, they need at least 8-9 hours of sleep which means they go to bed at 9am? I went to a school that never had morning preps. We woke up at 6:45am, cleaned up, went to breakfast and classes did not start until 7:50am. We had an evening prep from 7pm to 9:30pm. Lights were on in the dorms from 9:30pm to 11pm. We had one (1) Saturday morning prep from 8am-10am...and that was it..till Sunday evening from 7pm-9:30pm> The icing on the cake was that we had two outings on Sunday and Saturday. Mind you, this school was always in the top 10 (in both form 4 and form 6) then. Go figure!!

The pressure put on the students is unrealistic. Their potential future is dependent upon one exam. The final exam. The system should reconsider and base their ultimate success, based on their cumulative work over atleast the final whole year, ie tests and assignments. That kind of pressure regardless of how hard they're working, will cause students to act out, and ultimately leading to catastrophic events such as these. The education system should be reformed.
