Presidential Escort Officer Arrested for Abducting a Woman in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga County are holding an officer attached to the presidential escort unit for allegedly abducting a woman.

38-year-old Samuel Mwangi Nyaga, a police constable based at Ruiru General Service Unit (GSU) camp, was arrested in Kutus town alongside two other suspects after the 36-year-old woman raised an alarm, attracting area residents.

The GSU officer and his accomplices Mathew Karanja (35), and Wilfred Ngari (38) abducted Wahu and forced her into a Toyota Probox vehicle.

Gichugu Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Mbogo says the three were trying to force the woman named Mercy Wahu Njogu to withdraw cash from a local bank when she raised an alarm.

Mbogo disclosed that Nyaga was being sought for deserting his duty since March this year.

"The officer was declared a deserter in the national police service vide Prescott Nairobi signal," said Mbogo.

A Kirinyaga court allowed detectives to hold the three suspects for seven days pending completion of investigations.

They are being held at Kianyaga police station and are expected to appear at Gichugu law courts on November 23rd.
