President Kenyatta has appointed 24 new ambassadors and high commissioners to head various Kenya missions abroad.
Seven new ambassadors have also been appointed to serve as deputy heads of missions and four officials to the post of consul-general, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
Nyeri Deputy Governor Dr. Caroline Karugu and former ICT Permanent Secretary Bitange Ndemo are among those who have been appointed to the diplomatic positions. Karugu and Ndemo were named as Kenyan ambassadors to Denmark and Belgium respectively.
National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai was appointed as Kenya's High Commissioner to Namibia, former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru was named Kenya’s Consulate-General in the Democratic Republic of Congo, while Thomas Kwaka alias Big Ted will serve in the same position in Los Angeles.
Others include Clement Nzomo (Ambassador to Angola), Mary Mogwanja (Ambassador to Austria), Muthoni Gichohi (Ambassador to China), Amb. Gathoga Chege (Ambassador to Cuba), Amb. Salim Salim (Ambassador to Djibouti), Maj Gen A.G. Matiiri (Ambassador to Egypt), Amb. Galma Baru (Ambassador to Indonesia), Amb. Paul Ndung’u (Ambassador to Mozambique), Maj Gen Andrew Ikenye (High Commissioner to Nigeria), Margaret Shave (Ambassador to the Netherlands), Amina Abdalla (Ambassador to Oman), and Amb. Nyambura Kamau (High Commissioner to Pakistan).
Also appointed are Boniface Mwilu (Ambassador to Qatar), Amb. Diana Kiambuthi (High Commissioner to Rwanda), Amb. Michael Oyugi (Ambassador to Spain), Maj Gn (Rtd) Thomas Chepkuto (Ambassador to Somalia), Amb. Isaac Njenga (High Commissioner to Tanzania), Leonard Boiyo (Ambassador to Turkey), Maj Gen(Rtd) George Owinow (High Commissioner to Uganda), Prof Richard Bosire (Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and cultural Organisation (UNESCO)), and Maj Gen (Rtd) Charles Gituai (Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the Inter-Government Authority for Development (IGAD)).
The newly appointed deputy heads of mission include Hariet Nduma (Kenya Embassy Vienna, Austria), Dennis Makobu (Kenya Embassy Brussels, Belgium), Edwin Afande (Kenya Embassy Beijing, China), George Kwanya (Kenya Embassy Addis Ababa, Ethiopia), Sammy Nyule Ngumbao (Kenya Embassy Tokyo), and Jane Sirindi Githinji (Kenya Embassy Moscow, Russia).
Those appointed as Consuls-General are Dennis Mburu (Kenya Consulate Arusha, Tanzania), Benson Mwaliko (Kenya Consulate Hargesia, Somaliland), and Tomas Kwaka Omolo (Kenya Consulate Los Angeles).
The new appointments come just 109 days to the August 9th elections and ahead of President Kenyatta’s exit from office later this year.
