Kanu Endorses Kalonzo Musyoka as Raila’s Running Mate
Kenya African National Union (Kanu) party has endorsed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the presidential running mate post.
The Senator Gideon Moi-led party says Musyoka is the most suitable running mate candidate for the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga.
“It is our considered opinion and strongly believe that Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka fits the bill and is the most suitable individual to deputize Raila Amollo Odinga,” Moi said in a letter to the coalition’s running mate selection panel on Thursday.
“It is our sincere hope that this panel will consider and find him appropriate for the position of Deputy President and consequently recommend his selection as such.”
This comes after the seven-member selection panel gave the coalition’s 26 affiliate parties until May 5th to nominate their preferred running mate candidates for consideration.
The panel is expected to conclude the vetting and selection process by May 10th, after which Odinga will name the successful candidate as his running mate in the August 9th elections.
Musyoka, who shelved his presidential bid in favor of Odinga, has insisted he will not appear before the panel for vetting, arguing that he is the most suitable deputy president nominee in the coalition.
"I want to tell all Kenyans that I will not attend the said process. I find the entire thing demeaning to my person and will therefore distance myself from it," Musyoka was quoted by The Standard as saying.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) set May 16th as the deadline for presidential candidates to submit the names of their running mates.

Who are these busy bodies thinking they can do the job of the committee by imposing their opinions and uncalled for endorsements.Why should Azimio appoint a VP who has promised to fight for his “ people” and a known traitor.During the Raila swearing in ceremony this water melon was missing in action.It is not a matter of recycling politicians who have done nothing if Azimio is serious they need a young Turk or green politician who will deflect from Baba who is perceived as elderly , seasoned and sadly lately as Uhuru’s puppet.

This is a strategic move by Kalenjins to bring back leadership to Kakenjins. First of all KANU is a Kalenjin party and the soul of all Kalenjins is to bring back the glories days of President Moi in their homeland. By endorsing Kalonzo to be Raila's running mate what they are trying to do is to consolidate Ruto's support in Mt Kenya vote rich region. They know Kalonzo cannot add value to Raila's presidency. They know Raila's support in Kambaland is not determined by his closeness to Kalanzo, that Raila is very popular in Ukambani land with or without Kalonzo's support. They also know Raila cannot win presidency without some backing from Mt Kenya region so they want to take away from him in form of supporting Kalanzo running mate deal. Kalonzo is least person Kenya need to be a Vice President. When he was Vice President during Kibaki's Presidency he was sidelined by Raila who was junior to him. Kalenjins who are traditionally very secretive are smart than they get credit for. If Ruto win presidency he will make peace with Gideon Moi and that will be the end of their rivalry.
