UDA Party Writes to IEBC Demanding ICT CS Mucheru's Resignation for Campaigning for Raila

Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party has written to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) protesting ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru’s involvement in political campaigns.

UDA is demanding Mucheru’s resignation for allegedly campaigning for the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga, saying that he could use his docket to influence the results of the upcoming elections.

The party’s secretary-general Veronica Maina cited Mucheru’s recent remarks that they “would ensure the elections are free and fair by making sure systems work”.

“In light of the foregoing, we write this protest letter to bring to your attention as the body mandated to conduct elections the remarks by the Cabinet Secretary for ICT and request that you look into the matter and guarantee all parties and Kenyans free and fair elections come August this year,” Maina said in a protest letter to IEBC.

While calling on the commission to explain Mucheru’s role in the forthcoming elections, UDA demanded that he resigns to focus on campaigning for Odinga, adding that his continued stay in office could compromise the independence of the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), which provides the framework for electronic results transmission.

Maina noted that the authority provides the technical framework for the electoral commission to conduct digital registration, digital tallying, and relaying of results electronically.

“Of concern to us is the critical role the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology plays in supervising and overseeing the Communication Authority of Kenya. In this regard, assuming even that Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology had a role to play in facilitating the elections, his recent remarks compromises his neutrality and the office he holds,” UDA added.

Mucheru attended the unveiling of Martha Karua as Odinga’s running mate at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Monday.

Ruto - Mucheru is a CS under you. You have to resign before you tell your junior to resign. Who is advising you Ruto? Nonsense!

Ruto is very scared of losing. He knows he has lived a criminal life of embezzlement, graft, theft and corruption.

Ruto can’t imagine a life out of government because a lot things will happen to take the people’s stolen money back from him.

He is really scared and his DP pick is scared too. No more 257 gsu to guard the Ruto chicken, and that makes Ruto’s chicken bear 1/2 an egg.

Ruto is the last guy to tell Mucheru to resign. How come he himself have not resigned yet? Chebukati has not control over Mucheu’s job.

When you see Ruto going after small people, it’s obvious he has sensed defeat on 9 August 2022. All I now asked Ruto is to peacefully concede defeat and not to drag Kenyans through the mud like he did in 2007.

Ruto can’t orchestrate the 2007 massacre where he killed many Kenyans, especially women and children and then expect Kenyans to forget all that to vote for him.

Please don’t get emotional when @ceneca have asked a legitimate question. Why has Ruto not resigned because he has not been working in the past 4 years? Stop your nonsense dude.

Ruto is unfit to be president. He is playing at his league equals harassing CSs. At least the CSs do the job they are appointed to do. Ruto is inebriated with Munya, Matiangi and Mucheru. He is afraid the CSs do a better job than him.

Precisely. The CS has been doing his job as compared to WSR who has failed Kenyans. Ruto should tender his resignation first before he tell Mucheru to resign. Isn’t Ruto a government worker too who has been TangaTanga-ring campaigning from time immemorial? Let Ruto resign for Kenyans to get a working DP.
