Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s Security Withdrawn for 'Demeaning' Police Officers

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has withdrawn Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s security detail.

The withdrawal follows Senator Malala’s remarks at a political rally in Kakamega last week where he opined that police officers do not need any academic qualifications as their work only entails holding firearms.

"Kazi ya askari si nikushika bunduki tu pekee yake? Hio inahitaji masomo yoyote kweli? Kama mtu amemaliza Form Four na alipata C plus, tumpeleke university asome; kazi ya askari ni hawa jamaa ambao wako hapa wenye waliacha shule na hawakufanikiwa kumaliza shule,” Malala was quoted as saying.

In a statement on Sunday, NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia accused Senator Malala of demeaning police officers, adding that the politician must tender a proper apology for his security to be reinstated.

"We know you Senator Malala. You must come and apologize properly to the police. We have agreed with the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai that you will continue moving around in Kakamega without security. If you want, you can take all those youths you claim have dropped out of school in Kakamega and make them your security. My police officers will not protect a politician who does not respect them,” Kinuthia stated.

"The senator will have to ask forgiveness in a respectful manner. We as the police have agreed that we will not provide security until he properly apologizes.”

Malala, who is eyeing the Kakamega governor’s seat in the August 9th elections on an ANC party ticket, earlier issued a public apology, saying his remarks were taken out of context.

How is Malala vying for Kakamega governor while he does not have a degree? The one he claim to have gotten from USIU is stolen and fake.

So you got and Oscar Sudi with fake academic papers. No wonder the dummy is insulting hard working police officers who provide security to him on daily basis. He should be fined for insulting the police force.

His youthful ignorance and inexperience speaks volumes.

Sorry! Hon. Malala's USIU credentials are legit. Sat with him in the same class and graduated with him. He got carried away and I'm pretty sure his words were taken out of context and misinterpreted. Stop overreacting, Malala will be the next Kakamega governor. He has done more for the youth and people of Kakamega than Oparanya in all his years in public service. Granted he is in the wrong party and sitting at the table with the wrong corrupt folks in UDA but Kakamega will still vote for him as the next governor. Hiyo chuki ingine ya watu wa USIU jichunguze sana roho yako chafu brother na uwache machungu!

This guy Malala is all over the place with his colossal ignorance. Why is he competing with the officers who protect him? Very immature indeed.

He was not meant to demean the police, the big picture is he was advocating for pupils who achieved a C and deemed failures to join the varsity. We only consider one side of the story and we are quick to judge. This guy spoke in good faith maybe or maybe not but we interpreted the negative end as his intention.

Kinuthia and Mutyambai action is worse than Malala’s outbursts. It’s like they own the police in Kenya.Jinga Malala has freedom to speak his mind and the duo cannot prosecute him.But Malala can sue billionaire Kenyans for Kinuthia and Mutyambai’s refusal to provide him with security like other gubernatorial candidates as the law states. All I know is that death can snatch him even with 100 heavily armed guards as it has done to expired miitu Kibaki,Moi,Kamau,Saitot etc.

Malala is reducing police men to the status of night watchmen with rungus. Now Idont mean to insult the rungu-watchmen,but most of them have very limited education if any,and their jobs dont require it. You cannot say same for the cops. Yes he needs to do more than apologize.Have him go for police training for 3 months. How do we know if the apology would be sincerely anyway?

As usual with politicians when the words they speak do not return the intended reaction, they resort to their famous 'failsafe' response,'I was misquoted... and taken out of context".
