Creative Kenyan to Pocket Sh100,000 for Naming Newly-Constructed Parliament Office Block

The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) has invited Kenyans to participate in a naming competition for Parliament’s new multi-storey office block.

The commission, through a notice published in local dailies on Monday, announced a Sh100,000 cash reward to whoever comes up with best name for the building.

“The commission would like to invite interested citizens to participate in a naming competition to find an appropriate name for the new multi-storey office block,” read the notice signed by PSC’s Parliamentary Joint Services director-general.

“The name must be catchy, reflect the values of the institution of parliament and its stature.”

To participate in the competition, interested applicants are required to download the submission forms on the parliament’s website and submit the duly-filled copy at Parliament’s tender box by June 20th. Alternatively, they can submit the forms via email to Parliament’s procurement office.

The newly-constructed 26-floor Parliament tower stands between Continental House and County Hall, next to Parliament buildings, and was developed by the PSC. The office block is meant to house the expanded 418-member legislature.

Its construction was undertaken by China Jiangxi Construction Company at a cost of Sh5.8 billion and ranks among the tallest buildings in the capital, standing at 125 meters.

Clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai told the National Assembly Committee on Defense and Foreign Relations that the handover of the 28-storey Parliament Towers will be done in July.
