One Killed, Scores Injured in Multiple-Car Accident on Nairobi Expressway

One person was killed and scores others injured following a multiple car crash on the Nairobi Expressway on Saturday night.

The 10:00 pm accident at the Mlolongo Toll station was caused by a motorist who was driving at a high speed, according to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). The motorist crashed into a toll booth and other vehicles that were being cleared to exit.

“The motorist crashed into the Toll Plaza and ran over other vehicles that were being cleared to exit. Consequently, the vehicle knocked one toll booth and injuring one toll attendant besides the other motorists,” KeNHA said in a statement on Sunday.

Reports indicate that the driver of the speeding vehicle died on the spot while two passengers who were on board sustained serious injuries. The injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals, and are said to be responding well to treatment.

KENHA announced the closure of the Mlolongo toll station exit and assured motorists that they will put in place measures to avert such incidences.

Motorists have been advised to avoid over speeding on the newly built highway.

This expressway is not even three months old yet.It is time the NTCC or whatever that organization is called gets serious.Instead of just looking for drunk drivers do they not have radar guns or are none of them stationed on this new road How about cameras considering this was just recently constructed surely there must have been some technological consideration given to speeding and ways to curb it apart from relying on regular police checkpoints

Comments above ...phew...takes about 4 seconds to stop a vehicle - when sober. Slow down down, at a minimum drive speed limit (which is often retardedly slow) or don't drive at all.
