Azimio Defends Junet Mohamed over Claims of Misappropriating Agents' Funds

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition has dismissed claims that some of its members embezzled funds meant for agents in the August 9th general election.

Raila Odinga Campaign Secretariat spokesperson Makau Mutua said Azimio agents largely performed their duties in what he termed as a challenging environment, adding that they were not to blame for the “bungled election.”

He insisted that the role of delivering a free and fair election lies squarely on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and not party agents or candidates.

“Let me state clearly that the issue of agents was not the cause of a bungled election. We must appreciate that it is not the responsibility of candidates to protect the vote, or conduct a free and fair election,” Mutua said in a statement on Sunday.

“That constitutional duty lies squarely with the IEBC working in concert with relevant institutions. No one should blame Azimio or our candidates for stolen votes or a fatally flawed election.”

Mutua defended Azimio Secretary-General Junet Mohamed from allegations that he misused the funds meant for agents, clarifying that the Suna East MP did not handle funds for the agents.

“I have seen scurrilous attacks on Hon Junet Mohamed accusing him of misappropriating funds meant for agents. Let me state without equivocation that Hon Mohamed was a campaign lead in the field supporting Odinga,” Mutua said.

"Those trafficking in such brazen and false propaganda must cease and desist forthwith."

Instead of Talking about Your Man that has Kiambaa Church blood on his Hands and Chris Msando on his Head, you're Attacking a Man who Truly and Excellently WON the Election by 8 Million+ Votes vs the Killer's 6 Million votes. And again: Raila WON the PRESIDENTIAL Election hands Down. Muache uJinga.

Haki I fail to understand my people. Is someone so idle and underprivileged to be wasting their time getting angry based on what politicians do? If you pay too much attention to what this class of people say and do you will develop a chronic headache like my neighbor Baba Mwende.

What as Kenyans need to start asking is where this money came from. According to what I have read, Junet Mohamed pocketed 10 million USD, ROUGHLY, 1 BILLION KSH.
This is serious money. Was this money part of bribery?
