Mombasa Court Orders Exhumation of Body of a British Woman ‘Killed by the Devil’

A Mombasa court has ordered the body of a British national who died in Kenya under unclear circumstances in 2020 be exhumed for an autopsy to determine the cause of her death.
Senior Resident Magistrate Ritah Orora ordered the exhumation of Lutfunisa Khandwalla’s remains following an application filed by her family citing foul play in her death. The application was filed by her brother Imran Admani through his attorney Jacinta Wekesa.
“Since the application is not opposed, it is hereby ordered that Khandwalla’s body be exhumed for postmortem and extraction of samples toxicology and DNA to ascertain the cause of death,” ruled the magistrate.
The court ordered the OCS in charge of Central Police Station in Mombasa to provide security during exhumation. Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives are also required to be present at the gravesite during exhumation.
The magistrate also allowed the family of the deceased to engage a private pathologist to represent it during the exhumation and postmortem examination.
Khandwalla, 44, reportedly died while receiving spiritual healing while on vacation in Kenya on August 2nd, 2020, and was buried the following day at Memon Cemetery.
She had visited her husband’s relatives in Mombasa where it is alleged the devil killed her as a spiritual leader tried to help her.
Before she met her death, Khandwalla was stuck in Kenya after the government imposed a lockdown and travel restrictions to contain the spread of Covid-19.
