19-Year-Old Boy Injured During Azimio Protests Dies at KNH

A 19-year-old boy who was injured during anti-government protests by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition on March 30th has passed away.

Jamleck Mwanza died on Monday from his injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he has been undergoing treatment for nearly two weeks.

The teen died from a brain hemorrhage due to the head injuries he suffered during the demonstrations in Nairobi, according to a doctor’s report.

His family is working to raise the medical bills as they wait for a postmortem to be conducted on his body.

Mwanza went missing on March 30th and after looking for him for two days, the family found him admitted at KNH on April 1st.

"I am saddened because he was my first born and I was working hard so that he can go to school. I wish politicians would sit down and talk instead of going to the streets because many people get hurt and some are children,” his mother said.

The opposition coalition has since called off the protests to pave way for dialogue with the government on the issues they have raised, among them the high cost of living and the reconstitution of the electoral commission.
