Dedan Kimathi's Wife Dies at 96 While Receiving Treatment
On the morning of May 5, 2023, Kenyans woke up to the sad news of the death of Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi's widow, Mukami Kimathi, who has died aged 96.
Her daughter Evelyne confirmed that the heroine died on Thursday night at Nairobi Hospital after developing breathing difficulties.
Mukami played a key role in the struggle for independence, a push that landed her in the Kamiti Maximum Prison.
Recently, President William Ruto's regime helped foot her Sh1.3 million hospital bill.
"On arrival at the hospital, she was received by the doctors but after several tests, they informed us that she wouldn't make it, she died a few minutes later and we took her body to Lee Funeral Home," said her daughter Nyawira Kimathi.
MauMau fighters have trooped in to send their tributes, lauding Kimathi's widow for her contribution to the push for independence.

Kwa nini mpaka sasa hatujajua mahali Kimathi wa Ciuri alipozikwa? Twajua wazi ya kwamba, aliuawa na kuzikwa Februari 18, 1957 kwenye jela kuu ya Kamiti. Ingekuwa bora kama kaburi lake lingechimbwa na kutoa mifupa ya shujaa wetu Hayati Ndugu Kimathi mara moja.
Rigathi: Nakuomba uwaulize Waingereza wakupe taarifa na kukwambia mahali Kimathi alipozikwa ili kaburi lake liondolewe na kuzikwa karibu na lile la Mama Mukami.
Nawaheshimu sana mashujaa wetu wote waliojitolea mhanga kupigana na majambazi, matapeli, na wezi sugu wa asili ya Uingereza ili Kenya ipate uhuru. Ningependa kujua pia mahali Generali Baimunge na Mwariama walipozikwa. Kwa wote walio hai na pia wenye ushirikiano wa kidamu na mashujaa wetu Mukami na Kimathi, nawapeni pole zangu nyingi sana za kumpoteza Mama Mukami leo. Nawapeni mkono wa tanzia wakati huu ambao mna huzuni mwingi na majonzi kwa kumpoteza Shujaa Mukami.
Jambo moja kubwa linalonisumbua ni kuwa, itakuwa miaka 60 (sitini) 12/12/2023 tangu Kenya ipate uhuru kutoka kwa Waingereza, kwa nini viongozi tuliowachagua hawafanyi bidii kusema na kutumia lugha ya Kiswahili kwenye mikutano ya hadhara na pia kwenye bunge?
