Mukami Kimathi's Befitting Send-off Should be at Uhuru Gardens - Raila Odinga

Azimio leader Raila Odinga suggests that the funeral service of Mukami Kimathi, the widow of Dedan Kimathi, be held at Uhuru Gardens.

On Sunday, the Azimio leader visited Lee Funeral Home where he bowed in homage to the late mama Mukami Kimathi. Raila regarded Dedan Kimathi's widow as a heroine who deserves a state funeral. Raila prefers the venue since Mau Mau freedom fighters were tortured there.

“I would wish the final state funeral service in honour of the late Maitu Mukami Kimathi be held at Uhuru Gardens where Mau Mau freedom fighters were being tortured,” he suggested.

The opposition leader said that he will attend Mama Mukami Kimathi's send-off. He further spoke of their close ties and why Kenyans should honour the freedom heroine.

“I cannot miss the funeral of Shujaa Mama Mukami wa Kimathi. We have been very close and I will be in Njabini for her final ceremony on earth,” Raila said.

Mau Mau veteran Mzee Githu Kahengeri urged the government to deliver the remains of Dedan Kimathi in Njabini, Kinangop where they can be buried together. Meanwhile, President William Ruto has assigned a team to arrange the state funeral for the freedom heroine.  Interior PS Raymond Omollo will chair President Ruto's delegated committee alongside Nyandarua Governor Moses Badilisha.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stated on Friday that the funeral will be held on  May 13, 2023, in Nyandarua County. He added that Dr William Ruto will ensure that Mukami receives a befitting send-off.

This great woman was held a prisoner in a hospital because of an unpaid hospital bill which only got paid following a public out cry. Now the hyenas are out and about ready to chew up her bones for a political mileage. What a shame? Those who died for us have died again as we watch ungratefully.

@ Mwororo
You are right about the "closet hyenas." Let us not forget about what happened to other forgotten national heroes besides Kimathi. Let us remember Field Marshal Mwariama and Field Marshal Bamuinge.
Unfortunately, Field Marshal Bamuinge was killed after independence on January 26, 1965 when he had a personal disagreement with the first president of Kenya, the late Kamau wa Ngengi.
Muntu Murume Mwariama died in 1989 at Ukambani after he sucked the leg of a friend who had been bitten by a venomous snake.
