President William Ruto is urging doctors on strike to return to work and accept the government's proposal to hire intern doctors.
In a statement during a Sunday service at the AIC Church in Eldoret, President William Ruto emphasised the government's fiscal constraints and the need for responsible resource management. The President's remarks centred on the nation's limited financial resources and the unsustainable burden posed by the current wage bill which accounts for a staggering 47 per cent of the total revenue collected annually, far exceeding the recommended 35 per cent threshold. Ruto emphasized the urgency of curtailing excessive spending and living within the country's means. He highlighted the government's proposal to hire 1,500 intern doctors with a monthly stipend of Sh70,000 for one year, after which they would be employed.
This offer, according to the President, represents the best the government can provide given the constraints on available resources which have been allocated to absorb 1,500 interns simultaneously. The President shed light on the broader economic challenges facing the nation, stressing that nearly half of the 2.2 Trillion shillings collected as revenue each year is allocated to wages. Ruto stressed the imperative need to address this imbalance and reduce the wage bill, thereby creating opportunities for employment and funding crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, and development programs.
In line with this objective, the government aims to decrease the budget from 4.2 Trillion to 3.7 Trillion shillings, ensuring that expenditure aligns with revenue and eliminating the necessity for borrowing to cover salaries. Ruto unequivocally stated that relying on debt to finance recurring expenses is an unsustainable practice that must be addressed promptly. Furthermore, the President assured the nation of his commitment to leading the country towards economic recovery. He acknowledged the favourable weather conditions that have contributed to increased food production, which he interpreted as a sign of God's favour.
Kenyan doctors show no signs of backing down from their month-long strike. In an announcement on Sunday, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) confirmed plans for another march on Tuesday. This unwavering stance comes after the union initiated a nationwide strike on March 14 to compel the government to address their pressing concerns. The core issue of the strike revolves around the fair placement and compensation of medical interns. KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah declares that the strike will only conclude once all their demands are met.
He emphasizes that the doctors will not be swayed by intimidation tactics and that they will remain resolute in their pursuit of better working conditions. Speaking on the 25th day of the national strike, Atellah highlighted the unwavering solidarity among medical professionals. He emphasized the urgent need for dignified working environments across Kenyan hospitals. The union awaits meaningful dialogue with the government to bring about a swift resolution to the ongoing crisis.

My INDEPENDENT Take:
Doctors! Go start Your own Hospitals or Clinics. *This way: You won't Strike against Your own Bussinesses.😇
The doctors are embarrassing us. With such admirable knowledge and qualifications why would you be begging and crying for government pittance? In the US there are no government doctors, they all work private and charge the earth for their services. You all need to come together, quit government hospitals, establish your own medical infrastructure, hospitals, diagnostic labs, insurance companies to protect you, and even funeral homes and cemeteries, and you will have government and everyone else grovelling and pleading for mercy! Tch..tch
So Ruto knows the problem, but he has NO PLANS to address the wage bill!
If he was serious, he would tap all MCA salary at 50K a month, and MPigs and Senators at 100,000 a month!
Take it or leave it!
If the jobs don’t pay well enough for them, they should quit!!
5.7m. surviving YES katiba fools should explain why they preferred hiring 900 prostitutes to doctors, nurses, teachers and other essential workers. How can you hire an MCA harlot @shs 500,000 but offer a doctor shs 70,000?Jambazi Ruto should just take more loans to satisfy Kenyans who feel sweet announcing names like COUNTY,GOVERNOR,SENATOR,WOMEN REP.
