Merishaw School, located in Isinya and approximately 64 kilometers from Nairobi, has achieved a remarkable milestone by ranking first in Kajiado County for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
It has achieved an impressive mean score of 10.5686, equivalent to an A- (minus). This achievement is particularly significant as it marks the school’s inaugural participation in the national examinations, with the results officially announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on Thursday. Founded on May 5, 2022, Merishaw School draws its name from the Maa term "Or merisho," meaning "the conqueror."
In just two and a half years, the institution has established itself as a formidable presence in the region's academic landscape. Chief Principal David Kariuki attributes this rapid ascent to a distinctive educational culture and strategic planning, paralleling their educational approach to the Maasai tradition of centralizing valued assets within the community.
The school’s innovative academic strategy has yielded significant results, with six subjects achieving a mean score of A. These subjects include history, agriculture, computer studies, physics, business studies, and Christian religious education. Additionally, other subjects such as chemistry, biology, geography, Kiswahili, mathematics, art and design, French, and English demonstrated commendable performance, contributing to the overall academic success of the institution.
Under Mr Kariuki's leadership, who previously served as chief principal of Alliance High School in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, where he oversaw a mean score of 11.4 with over 200 students achieving an A, Merishaw School has seen its enrollment grow from 96 students at its establishment to 400 by early 2023 and 800 by the following year.
Mr. Kariuki's strategic vision included early syllabus completion and targeted revisions to address students' weaknesses, ensuring comprehensive preparation for the KCSE examinations. Innovative facilities at Merishaw School also enhance its educational offerings, including an aviation program equipped with a plane for practical lessons.
The school has facilitated international exposure for its students, sending them to countries such as Spain and Thailand over the past year.
