Ruto Urges Kiambu Leaders to End Feuds and Focus on Development

William Ruto has urged elected leaders in Kiambu County to set aside political rivalries and work together to advance development, warning that persistent disputes risk undermining public service.

Speaking during a Sunday church service at Jesus Christ Compassion Ministry in Ruiru, the President expressed concern over divisions among leaders elected under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He said it was contradictory for leaders who campaigned together to now struggle to cooperate.

Kiambu has recently experienced open tensions between Governor Kimani Wamatangi and several Members of Parliament, particularly Alice Ng’ang’a, the Thika Town MP who has declared her intention to contest the governorship. Their disagreements have at times played out at public events.

Ruto said that responsibility for development in the county lies with all elected officials, including Members of County Assembly, the Governor, the Senator, the Woman Representative and Members of Parliament. He said that if development efforts fail, those in office would be held accountable, and urged leaders to end blame and focus on resolving challenges collectively.

The President’s remarks followed concerns raised by Governor Wamatangi over demolitions conducted by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) along Thika Road, which displaced hundreds of traders. Wamatangi called for compensation and proposed relocation support to assist affected businesses.

In response, Ruto said solutions should be pursued through cooperation rather than accusation. He emphasised that all leaders share responsibility in government and should place the interests of residents above personal political ambitions.
